Was wondering what the golfers here usually shoot when they make it out to the course.
I heard it was some outrageous number of people who shoot over 100, like 95+%.
I certainly don't see that with my friends, but who knows. |
i think last time i went golfing with my roommate, he shot around 100 on the front 9
When I was playing 2-3 times a week, I was in the low 80's. Took me about a year to get to that point.
Now I shoot 90-95. Play about 3-4 times a year. |
The best I ever played, I was shooting in the mid 80s. That run lasted a few weeks (thankfully it included a trip to Monterey where I got to play some pretty nice courses compared to what's available locally). It seems like I'll get out and golf every week for a month at a time, then go on a 2 month break, then come back and play so poorly I don't want to take score
I just drive the little car and drink beer, occasionally stopping to hit the ball into the adjoining houses.
I wasn't aware you were supposed to keep score, except for houses hit. I average 3 or 4 per round of drinking, er....golf. |
When I was playing weekly mid 70's, now mid 80's. Got a company tournament coming up in 10 days, one of the yearly things thats always good to play well in, but I haven't been playing at all this year. I'm supposed to be one of the "ringers", looks like I may let some people down this year unless I can get some range time in soon......

"The other day I broke 70. That's a lot of clubs."
- Henny Youngman |
I shoot at the beer cart girl if she doesn't "re-supply" quick enough. |
I would probably play 5 over consistently except then I have to putt..........
heheh, aw you kill me!.... |
It really depends on the course. Set me out on a par 69, 104 slope and I can go low. Send me to a par 72, 135 slope track and I'll get chewed.
The best two balls I ever hit, were when I stepped on a bunker rake.
If I want to go outside and drink beer I'll set a cooler down by the lawn chair.
Lately, I've been shooting somewhere
around 80 on my home course. I shot a 78 on Saturday. |
I play 3-4 times a year. If I break 100, I had fun, but was probably more sober than I would have liked.

I shoot right around 100, but I actually count every shot and I only get out 1 or 2 times a year.
I don't play much anymore, but playing by the strictest rules I would shoot 88-90.
No mulligans. No "foot wedges". No lift and place. Correct penalties for a lost ball. Correct penalties for OB. No gimmes. I played with other guys who routinely put 85's on their scorecards, but when I counted strokes, BY THE RULES, they were in the 100's. When I play now I shoot around 101-105...I just can't seem to keep my drives in the course now. |
I had heard that as well, and found it hard believe. I figured arfcom would be a good general reprsentation of the avg. golfer. I make it out to the course about once every 2 weeks. My last 3 rounds have been 82, 82, 86. I shot my best round ever about a month ago, a 79. I play with penalties, no mulligans, no gimmees. I do however "lift and place" sometimes, usually to clean the ball. |
I once shot a 76.
Didn't let that get me down. Went ahead and played the back 9. I stink. I usually shoot in the low 90's. But I have lots of fun. |
been to a driving range once.....
you couldn't pay me to play golf |
Playing on the VPI course doesn't count. |
I play the ball down. Handicap would be around 8. Despite the fact that I strike the ball better than ever, I rarely have time to play. I miss it.
I suck at golf.. but how many golfers can shoot .25 MOA??
Send the golfers to WAR!!! |
Yup that about sums it up. If I score CORRECTLY, I usually get right around 103. |
Right now I play most of my golf at Great Oaks in Floyd, Draper Valley in Pulaski and Greene Hills in Stanardsville. |

So they're redoing the VPI course? The last time I played there (3 years ago or so) I remember talk of using half the course for campus expansion. I figured with all the money going into that area there would be a new course opening. Draper is a nice course. A little windy though. Two friends and I once went up and played it in early March. Played 36 on Friday and 18 on Saturday morning. Friday the temp was around 40 with that usual Wytheville winds. That was fun. |

Any word on what green fees will be? I'm sure they will have quite an increase over what the old course cost.
I would guess it will be more like $80 with Dye involved.
That's a shame. I just love how they price everyone off the course so the bigwigs can have the place to themselves. |

I've been, in the past, a mid-to-high 70's guy. That was when I was playing weekly or better.
I degraded into a low to mid 80's guy when I started playing a little less, say twice a month. I played about a month ago for the first time in a few years, and managed a 97. I think I could be in the high 80's on a second round, as I didn't go to the range beforehand and it took me a while to work things out. I was downright pleased with it, I expected to be alot worse after that kind of layoff... |
At least they're giving students discounts. But then probably more than making up for it in student activity fees. |

Only courses in VA I've played past Abingdon are the VPI course, Draper, and some nasty resort course in Staunton.

Engelside or something like that. Still have the card around here somewhere. I was on business in Lexington for a week, only course I could find online for the area. |
