Had the displeasure of watching the last 5 minutes of andy rooney. He was talking about US weapons systems and how much they cost with a bent of they were a waste of money.

Well didn't care what he thougt anyway, but he talked about the M1 Abrams and how expensive they are with a video of one burning in Iraq.

Andy Rooney is a fool. ANY armored vehicle can be killed. The M1 affords its crew SOOOO much more protection than the '60 series it replaced (I've crewed both over 24 yrs). To point to anectodal examples of one vehicle's misfortune without considering the overall performance of the system would condemn just about every platform every fielded.

All the old farts will be gone from 60 Minutes after this coming year. The retirement of the producer of the last 25 or so years (Don Hewitt) & their focus on attracting younger viewers will ensure that. Doesn't mean they'll be any better or less liberal, only younger, ala` Steve Kroft.

Ya know...I'm just a civilian....but it burns me when I hear ANYONE who isn't serving talk about what a waste of money military spending is. I feel we should give our guys EVERY bit of protection and all the best we can if we're gonna expect them to put their lives on the line for our country. Andy Rooney can stick it as far as I'm concerned!
