Don't know why so may here have slammed it. I like it. Lots of action...

I'm curious, though. First off, is the concept behind the movie (that the Codetalkers had "escorts" with orders to protect the code) true, and if so, is there any documented case where they actually had to do it?

Just curious...

As far as recent WWII genre movies, it blew balls.

It was alright, told a decent story about a real aspect of history... but IIRC, John Woo directed it... and I don't think WWII is really his forte.

I have read that the bit where codetalkers were assigned a "watcher" with orders to kill them if capture seemed imminent was not accurate historically.

Reminded me of the typical cheesy 60s WWII flicks.

It sucks hard. It swallows, spits it up and swallows again. It was called Windtalkers. It was supposed to be about the Navajo code talkers. The code talker angle was simply a gimmick to tell the story of Nick Cages character. I can only guess that once Cage was selcted for the part he insisted on a bigger part and John Woo didn't really give a shit about the story. He just wanted his trade mark unrealistic, big firey explosions and a name to draw people in to see them. So he gave Cage what he wanted and had the re write done and screwed the code talkers. It was Pearl Harbor all over again. A compelling story turned in to a steaming pile of poop. Hurray for Hollywood! The filthy money grubbing cocksuckers.

It sucked.

The Codetalkers deserved better, despite their perpetual whining since the end of the war.

A Codetalkers Veterans group has actually made a big production out of demanding that all the Codetalkers be awarded the Medal of Honor.  Congress actually gave in and issued a special Codetalkers commemorative medal, but they still want the MoH.

Cheesy, but not as cheesy as that movie.

I'm afraid I have to agree with SUKEBE .   It seemed to be all about Nicholas Cage .  It was just
WAY TOO Hollywood to be taken serious .

That's about my take on it....

The Codetalkers DEMANDED a MOH?

Uh.......... Yeah.

The sound you hear is that of dead MOH recipients rolling in their graves.

Average at best. Special effects sucked. How do bullets hitting at the enemy's feet, flinging up dirt and  shit, kill them? Every damn shot. Lame.

Thats just it .... it played like a cheap action movie from the 80's. Lots of gasoline explosions, shooting spraying their Thompson's from the hip .... Cage's horrible acting ... it was all very cheesy.

It was a bunch of manufactured crap about a real aspect of history. The whole premise that officers were to shoot Windtalkers was BS.

That is because part of it WAS in California...  If you look close, you can see snow by some of the bushes.  Some fill-in shots and re-takes were done off of Soledad Cyn Rd. just south of Acton, Ca, 30 miles north of Los Angeles.

the parts where the Japanese were using swords to cut up US soldiers is quite true, at least it was true when the Japanese invaded China.
