Here you have to be 21, even though it can take 2-6 months before you actually recieve it.

I was informed that it could take up to 90 days after receiving my paperwork (Louisiana). I sent it in RIGHT at the first of the year which I think was a good idea and the result was just over 30 days.

As my friends will attest, I have no class.
Got mine about 35 days after applying. Wife got hers in less than 30 days. |

Unless you have a parent or guardian with you most ranges won't let you shoot a handgun until you are 21. Therefore you will most likely not be able to take the class until after you birthday. I hear that you should be able to get your permit fairly quickly if you are outside of Wayne County. I have heard it can take up to 6 months in Wayne county.

FL advertises 90 days, less if you have your fingerprints electronically scanned. IIRC, mine took just about 30 days.

In Michigan you have to be 21 for a handgun and according to the Saftey Inspection certificate (Registration card the police give you), state law prohibits the furnishing, loaning, giving or selling of this pistol to another unless that person ... first obtains a license to purchase a pistol. And for that you have to be 21. So, to answer your question -- no. Wait until you turn 21, purchase a handgun, take the class and then apply for your CPL.
