Musicmatch and Media Player are two different programs.

I use Musicmatch.

Media Player Classic is what you are going to be looking for.  It is an open-source program that will play almost anything out there.  There are even plugins for it that will allow it to play RealMedia files and Quicktime files, so you do not have to install those bloated programs.

No, I apologize because I misunderstood your original request.  It is a player only, as far as I know.

The best program that I have used for ripping is called Exact Audio Copy.  EAC for short.
www.exactaudiocopy.de/
This program has a database it can connect to so it can look up CD information quickly.
To encode the ripped files into MP3s, it uses another program called LAME
lame.sourceforge.net/

These two programs are not difficult to set up together, and once everything is running, it is extremely easy to get high-quality rips.

I've used Nero at work for burning CDs.  Didn't know it was a media player/ripper!

It is a player, but I don't think it can rip. I use a program called DBPowerAmp to rip MP3's.

At least mine can play. I have Nero Ultra 6.0.
