While some of us are on the topic of racial profiling, what if you saw this man walking in a subway station?  If you were in the authority to do so, would you search his belongings?

poll coming...

You would be an idiot not to.

The problem with stereotypes is that they are usually true.

Depends on how he is acting.

I think I would let the Bobbies handle it.

I wouldn't automatically search his stuff just because of how he looks, but I'd certanly pay more attention to him than the 60 year old grannie or suit-wearing businessman, depending on his manerisims and how many other people were around.

ETA: the earring throws me off of thinking 'fundie muslim' for some reason, though I don't know/remember thier rules on such things.

I wouldn't profile him.  I'd look at behavior and other suspicious circumstances (wearing a heavy coat in summer, carrying a duffle bag, etc) and those are the only things that I'd factor into my decisions.

I would have a lower threshold for what I consider to be suspicious behavior by this man as compared to Bea Arthur.

He's not Arab, tho, is he?

No, it's my fiance, FortyFiveAutomatic.  He's always mistaken for Middle Eastern, and my Indian friends say that he could pass for an Indian too.

I however, am the Mexican-looking one, according to most people, which is strange, because I'm the one with no Mexican blood in me.  People actually don't believe me when I tell them my mom's Filipino

Oh well, he wanted me to post it to see if people agree with me.  When I first saw his license, I was like, "Wow, you look like you could be a terrorist!"  Way to start a friendship, huh?

I voted yes and while it may be waste of time to "profile" him, that would be just a bad guess I made.

On the other hand, I can absolutely guarantee you that checking a 70 year old grannie's bags is a waste of time. And that my friends, is "profiling" too.

I vote for setting the dogs on him while shouting "Abu Graib!! Abu Graib!!" at the top of my lungs.

Whether you look like an eskimo or like Tim McVeigh (like most of the members here probably do).

Racial Profiliing, how ever vial in the eyes of your average american CNN watcging citizen is a fact of life.  Even tough most posts here say " I would pay more attention to his actions/mannerisms" and so forth, the eason you would feel the need to pay more attention to him is because he seems to be of middle eastern decent.  However noble your intentions were, you still racially profiled him.

Not that I am saying this is bad, or eveil.  Just that it is a way of life, just the same as a woman walking down an alley, clutching her purse tighter when she notices a couple of black males walking toward her.  Again not saying this is wrong, just prudent planning based on prior experiences.

All depends on how he is acting. Does he seem nervous, jittery, does he have a back pack or bag, is he messing around with it? There is a lot that goes into it.

Fuckin' A right I would! A lot of people don't want to believe that this would be an effective way to cut down on potential terrorists, but I think it would. I've said it before, and I'll say it again:Political correctness is going to come back and bite us in the ass again and again until we do away with it!

No, because that would be un PC and might offend Muslim-Arab-Middle Eastern-Puerto Rican-Looking-Americans. Instead I would publicly strip and cavity search only whites so as to give the appearance of social equity and public safety, and at the same time do nothing to apprehend those most likely to be suicide bombers.
