I have had them swoop down and hit the windshield before. Also nailed a hawk with the rear view mirror. That was scary.

My Dad took one through the windshield of a Piper Cub about 50 years ago. The way he described it, it was quite a mess.

Probably chasing a mouse or something and you killed it before it had the chance to kill whatever it was chasing.
I'll bet the mouse has a story to tell its pals of how the hand of God, in the form of bright lights from Heaven, saved him from the clutches of the horrible evil owl. Probably go on to become a prophet and lead the mouse-tribe in a mass exodus across the Texas landscape. |

More owls die at the side of the road than anyother way. They see an rodent that is feeding in seeds from the grass and when an owl locks in on its prey there is no turning back. I see lots of dead owls here in Florida. Its sad but it happens.

...as it is it's a story about a luchusa. Acording the old Mexican folklore and superstition, the angel of death will sometimes appear as an owl. Its appearance foretells a death.  scarrry stuff boys and girls...scarrry stuffff....... |

Here is a strange owl story...
...While I was out of town my wife was on the couch in the living room reading at about 10pm. The couch sits in front of a large picture window with two smaller crank out windows on either side. She had both windows cranked out all the way. There is a screen in each window. So, as she sitting there reading the cat decides to jump up onthe end table and lay down. The end table sits right in front of one f the crank out windows. All of a sudden she hears a crash and there is an owl with it's claws through the screen trying to break in and get the cat! She smacks at the screen and scares the owl away. Needless to say the cat was WIDE awake and alert for the rest of the night and she was spooked at every little noise she heard. |

When I was a kid there was a house a couple of doors down that had 2 big palm trees in the front yard. One summer a family of barn owls nested in one of the trees. One night several of us were out jacking around and heard what sounded like a cat up in the air over our heads. We had no idea what was going on until we saw one of the owls silhouetted against the sky headed toward the nest carrying something in its talons that sounded very unhappy. Totally cool. |

I hate when I get beat to a Chupacabra reference. A friend of mine was hunting at a lease near Comanche,Tx. He and my other buddy talked all night about Chpacabras and pretty much wigged themselves out about. Well buddy #1 has a thing for extremely high deer stands built in the tops of trees. Wouldn't you know, he was climbing up into his high platform stand and as he reached the top his headlight illuminated an owl perched on top. He said it was all he could do not to crap himself and fall 20 feet to the ground as he scrambled down the tree. |

One night when I was driving out to the Hun Farm...on US Hwy 287, just North of Decatur, Texas, an 18-wheeler and I were driving abreast when I spotted a great owl in the road on the center stripe.
I kept thinking that the owl would fly off just before we got to it, but...no dice. I couldn't actually see what happened to the owl, but I suspect that the airstream alone from the two vehicles was sufficient to kill it, even without actually being run over by either vehicle. One evening about 2 years ago my best friend went to let his dog out and he saw something out in the snow, picking at something. He shooed away an owl, and the owl had been picking at the body of his neighbor's miniature pinchser, which it had killed.

I had a white owl hanging around me while I bow hunted a few years ago. He would fly by me and man, you could hear the wind rush around his wings, an awsome sight to behold, he watched me for several days.
When I made a bow kill out of my stand he was there, he came flying in as I was gutting the deer, watched me the whole time, I know when I left he flew in for a free dinner..... |

I had a Hooty Owl that became partial to a tree in my front yard years ago. We could hear him ALL FREAKIN NIGHT....HOO..HOO...HOO...HOOOOO! They are pretty damn loud when youre only 50 to 60 feet away.
I had a million candlepower spotlight, and took to lighting him up. Magnificient critter. BIG critter. We looked at him for some time. Reckon the light hurt his eyes, because he flapped his wings about twice....and the next thing we knew...he was comming at us talons first! FREAKY! I turned off the light and pulled the door shut and he flew off. That bird must have had a 4 foot wingspan! Big freakin bird! I truly believe he would have attacked us, (likely the light), if we hadn't shut the door. It would surely be cool to life-mount one if you wouldn't get in legal trouble over it! |

My dad hit a mockingbird square in the grill of our old taurus once. Never knew it until the guys at Jiffy lube told us we had the state bird of Texas stuck dead as a doornail in our radiator.
An old roommate of mine hit a turkey going 50 or so on the highway. Bird was caught on the wipers and attempting to peck at him through the windshield...not a smart bird. Roomate accelerated to 90 and turned on the wipers. He told me the bird went flying... Ben |

About ten years ago, I dozed off in a deer blind that was about twenty feet up.
When I woke up, I was face to face with a big barn owl. I was startled so bad the fight of flight reflex kicked in and first we fought and then I tried to flee. I broke my foot real bad when I hit the ground.  I guess the owl won the fight. |

Not that weird bud. Owls sometimes attracted to movement will dive for the kill thinking it is food.
