There are some areas where AR's and similar weapons are banned. So unless you had a pre-ban or moved to another area, you're pretty much SOL as far as new semi-auto military rifles go. So what do you folks use? Lever actions? Compact bolt guns? Shotguns?

I am interested to see how our less fortunate brothers-in-arms around the nation deal with this situation.

Personally an AR-15 ripoff with a fixed magazine, and an FAL with a fixed magazine with stripper clip loading through the top.

I see an M1A and M1 Garand in the future, however.

im in Australia so there is no semi autos and pump shotguns. we use, bolt action shotguns, lever shotguns and rifles, pump rifles, strait pull bolt actions, and  there is one rifle make that works by sliding the pistol grip forward and back to reload it. it sucks .... fight for your autos with your life, when they are crushed thats it.

Luckily I got mine before the ban but nowadays in CA, it's pretty much down to the M1A (would be my personal pick), Mini 14/30, M1 Carbine, and SU-16 if you want detachable mag centerfire semis.  Surprisingly, semi auto "scary looking" shotguns are still ok.  You can also still get an SKS but it has a fixed mag.  Very sad.

My only evil gun is an FN Tactical Police Shotgun.  I'm saving up for an M1A Scout.

These:

And I think the next purchase will be an M1A

ETA: saw the writing on the wall and dumped my AR-15 rather than be forced to comply with registration. Moot anyway, as CA tracks all purchases anyway.
Bought the mini-14 and a goodly supply of Thermold 30rd mags before they were restricted as well. I'm 100% in compliance with CA's fucked-up laws, and still reasonably well-armed.

If I was in a bad place, I'd get a 1919.

Or an M1A.

When BLM wouldnt let us shoot AR's on their land in Cali I used my M1A Scout, Mini-14, M1 Carbine, M1, SKS, and Benelli M1 Super 90 the most.  BLM has since recinded that policy.

Don't forget the Kel-Tec SU-16 series.
Takes AR mags, semi auto, can still be had in Cali, and the best feature of all:

ITS BLACK &  EVIL LOOKING ! ! !

I can have Ar15s, however I prefer Commie weapons over the AR15. I have an SKS and I'm working on another plus an Arsenal SAM7.

If I did have an AR15 I'd sell or give it to someone in a Ban state. They could probably use it more than I.

Wow, I didn't realize you guys had it that bad.

You have my condolences. I thought your laws were somewhat on par with ours but I'd be wrong. I'd be very wrong.

The Cali folks who have it the worst are the young guys who were not old enough to buy before the ban.  Us old farts have plenty of ARs.

I'm real sorry for you cali guys. I hate it when people post shit like "move to a free state" or "you shouldn't have elected those commies." I know it isn't that easy.

Hey, if I was living in a free state, my primary rifle would STILL be that M1A Scout. I prefer straight stocks to pistol grip stocks, and a harder hitting cartridge....

+1. Prefer a .30cal weapon.

But I'm thinking about building a Vulcan-type neutered AR, just so I can strap all the Evil Features I can on it, to egg on every nosy LLLib LEO / Rangemasters. And to piss off every person I meet with it who wants to know if its 'real' and gets an earful from me about the f'ed up CA laws.
