I visited a buddy this weekend and he gave me a sealed bottle of VAT 69 Scotch whiskey.  He said the whiskey is at least 30 years old since he inheritted it from his uncle and it had been in his uncle collection since 1975.  When I saw it, the first thing that came to mind was "Hey, that was the favorite whiskey of Capt. Nixon in Band of Brothers!" .... the bottle used is the same in shape to that used during WW2.  I was told that today's VAT 69 is packaged using different shape bottle.

I dont drink, and I plan to use the VAT 69 as part of my WW2 display (I am a Ww2 US reenactor).

Is this bottle of whiskey collectible?  So how much is the value of a 30-yr old bottle of VAT 69 still in factory sealed condition?  I was told they age the bottle for 6 years before selling it.  True?

Thanks

Just remember once they take it out of the barrel, it stops the aging process

I dont know if I would drink it but it would make a cool "collector " bottle

VAT is some odd Scottish abbreviation for: Tastes like Shit and will make you regret it in the morning.

69 just refers to the number of dry heaves AFTER your stomach is empty.

Once it is sealed in the bottle it is done, that doesn't mean that it will be bad either, depending on it's treatment over the years, IE: heat and light fluctuations etc... Just like a good Wine.  It can be great, or horrible based on how it was handled.
