They all have their pros and cons.

Hank: The honest but majorly uptight man's man

Bill: The loser with a heart of gold

Dale: Just because he's paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get him

Boomhauer: The sly ladies man who's above it all

ETA where the heck did the add a poll feature go? never mind I found it

None of the above.

I am a bit more complicated than any character that can be depicted in a weekly sitcom.

Dale sold a 1911 cash money at Peggy's book store, then started shooting in the basement later on. That about sums it up for me.

In one of the episodes, he denounces the NRA.  And the NRA's pretty mainstream.

I haven't seen that episode, but he does hunt and shhots with Bobby.  As I recall he's just not good at it.  With the anti gun crap they put in so many shows the portrayal of shooting as a hobby in King of the Hill was a pleasant suprise.

Famly guy came out viciously ant gun owner (so much so I've stopped watching it).  I liked that show "Titus" when it came out because the character was at least a little bit of a man, not some testoterone starved reject like most men in sitcoms.  But then they had an episode where a primary character (Stacy Keach) actually said men with guns were penis compensating.  When they said that my wife looked at me and said, "we won't be waching this anymore will we?" Men in modern sitcoms are either efiminate or borderline incompetent.

Dale

Not really my choice but my wife calls me that when I'm headed to the range (with too many guns to carry in one trip) or when I have to use six keys and a combo to enter "my" area of the house where -eerrr- stuff is kept. She also calls me "Dale" when I tell her not to mention certain things over the phone (never know who is listening) or when I chastise her for telling people, with no need to know, about our vacation plans, investments, medical information etc.
