That has never worked for me on any video still. I've tried media player, real media and quicktime as well as DIVX. I get a black image. |

Windows XP has Windows Movie Maker and I think you can use it to capture video, still, etc.

If you're using a dinosaur system like me: -Pause the video where you want. -Hit "Print Screen" -Pull up the "paint" program (Start, Programs, Accessories, Paint...or where ever yours is) -In "paint" click "edit" then "paste" and the picture will pop up -Save it as a JPEG and the crop it how you want with your Photoshop or whatever program. |

Man, I don't see any of the options in Windoze Media.
Save As and Copy - but I just want the one screen shot, not the whole video. Maybe it's just not possible - at least not by me.

Where is this Print Screen of which you speak? I have a Copy to CD or Device button, though. Well fuck, I tried the Copy to Cd button and lost my saved spot in the video. |

If print screen in WMP yields a blank image for you, here is something you can do.
Click on Tools in the menus up top Go to Options Click the performance tab Set video acceleration to none Now your problem should be fixed. The print screen key should be to the left of the scroll lock key |

It is probably on the upper right of your keyboard near the keypad somewhere. At least it is on mine. Look along your top row of keys.

 It copies what is currently on your screen to your Windows clickboard. Frankly, I can't get it to work with WMP either. |

It looks just fine in my ArcSoft Photo.
I save it as a JPEG to a disk. When I go back to open the jpeg from the disk, the screen is black. And I did change the speed to none a while back. |

It wouldn't work for me either until I changed the video acceleration to "none", but you did that...  This is the closest I could get it, Backstop. I don't think this is the spot you were looking for, though:

EH, you're almost there.
Less than one second fwd from there, you will see the bldg engulfed in a fire ball - and the missle is still above it. For some reason when I open the jpeg after saving it to disk, the screen is blank. |

I have been trying to do this for a long time with no success
 Thanks for the good info , I actually got it to work Tried it with a new avatar. I crashed the quad about 45 seconds after the video I captured this image from was taken

the frame rate of the video camera is 30 fps
but it shoots 2 fields per frame the difference between missle zooming in and the impact explosion was ~1/60th of a second |
