BUT!!!! I expect this thing to take maybe 5-15 mins tops.
If you all missed the previouse post, here's what you can expect in this push. Of course this isn't a full list, but most things are fixes or minor changes here and there. I've already begun work on the next update and expect it to be the final set of fixes and changes for the time being, as well as maybe a new item or two. Light version of site for mobile users and for times the site just loads slow for you. - Will be READ ONLY for now. - Has ZERO graphics on pages - Will be made available to everyone Completely retooled subscription system. - Limits raised to 250/100 for guests/team respectively. - A single email notice will be sent per subscribed thread until it's revisited. (Cut back on email loads.) - Checkboxes for multiple delete selection. (Select all button for quick cleaning up!) More Timezones added for our brothers overseas. - European & Austrailian timezones added - At this time you will need to change the TZ to Summer Time manually. (This will be automated in the near future, but I wanted to rush this out to you guys!) Moved thread updates. - Threads moved across communities will now leave the original message with an updated title and a link to the new thread. (This way bookmarks will always work for threads which were moved.) - Move page also upgraded for mods/staff to work a lot easier. New forum toolbar buttons. - To replace these hard to read gray with black buttons. (Lighter gray gradient behind buttons.) Front page news items linked to News Forum. - Ok no big deal, but I wanted any posts made to the front page of the site to be repeated in the news forum in the General section of the site. This way people can discuss items shared on the homepage easily. |

Nice work GoatBoy, as always.
One Q, did you ever find a mod for Cars and Bikes? Cause if you need a mod...I can help. |
The new upgrades are excellent so far. Looks like I need to get the mobile web now.
OH HELL YES!!! Now this old man can read the buttons. Bob |
THANK GOD!!!!!!! |
I can do the business forum as a mod if the help is needed. Otherwise, the site looks great! Which color do you use? |

All Done!
Edited to add: LITE VERSION AVAILABLE AT wap.ar15.com!!! This will also work for wap.ak47.net and wap.weaponforums.com The lite version is limited to 50 pages though to keep it as usable as possible on some of the older and smaller cell phones. |
There's a link at the top of the page for the lite version and the direct URL is WAP.AR15.COM (as posted above) so that you have a simple way to get to the url without having to type www.ar15.com/lite/ It's actually been live for a few days, I just wanted to try it out on my phone and toys to make sure it was clean enough to be useful. I will most likely add a dressed up version for large WAP appliances and for the modem guys who sometimes load slowly and want a way to read quickly... |

bugs:
looks like some of the prices in EE are still too high, but everything else looks fine. |
works pretty good.
question maybe it is just my phone but once i get into the GD area on my phone. i scroll down and i have to scroll thru the links for pages 1-50 before i get to the first topic on the first page. not sure if it is my phone or not. if it is not my phone.is there antway to put it towards the bottom of the pages? if not,i can live with it. nice work. |
Yeah and something smells over in GD, can you get rid of it? |
Some phones are forced to tab through all the links, some have means to move down the page... I can move pages to the bottom to make it easier though. I also may just make it "Next Page" & "Prev Page", but then it would be a pain to move several pages at once. |

I love you, man. (In a very HETERO way, of course.) -Troy |

GB…
Topics in the Hometown Forums don't show up in the 'ACTIVE TOPICS'… Also… would it be possible for us 'foriners' change the date format to our style 29/7/2005 instead of 7/29/2005? Thanks Andy |
Have the cookies changed? I ain't been able to log on from work since the update. Erased cookies, killed all the temp files, etc..
I like that... a lot. I'm a dial-up user and sometimes my connection is horrible. Thanks for the lite version!! (Site looks great BTW) |
I'm not seeing the bookmarks left behind after moving topics across communities.
I haven't tried. Does it leave the "cookie" or "crumb" when you move something to the mod forum or trash? (hopefully not, feedback would be all "ghost topics" where people messed up and posted wrong ) |
If you move a topic to trash, staff, mod forum, or any other private forum, it wont leave a trail. If you move it within the same section (ie a thread within general from GD to TeamForum) it will simply move. The reason for this is that the bookmark never changes.
If there's a real need to have threads which stay within the same community but switch forums leave a trail, then we can make that happen too. - As for the date format, I'll see what I can do. - Cookies did not change, but that doesnt mean something didnt screw up the cookie at work. - Hometown threads are no longer part of active topics... per request. - Also a little behind on IMs, will check them after a few minor fixes today. |
When using the lite version to view a topic it shows the links for pages 1-50 even if there is only one page for the thread.
If you click on page 10 for example it just shows a page with no replies. Don't know if this is suppose to be like this or not but it would be nice if only links to actual pages showed up. I now this is the first verson so some things were probably done to make it easy to code, this may have been one of them. ETA: There is no team member login for the lite version. So I have to log in on the full verson then switch to the lite verson |
I moved a topic from General Discussion to the Hometown forum. I did not see a "trail" left behind. I then moved another topic from Hometown to General - still no "trail" noticed.
Maybe I'm not looking in the right spot or I'm misunderstanding what you're saying. |
Holy crap, Im surfin ARFCOM on my celly.
I have a Moto e815 on the Verizon EVDO network (400-700 Kbps) and the wap.ar15.com site is FLYING! Page down is my # key, that bypasses all the individual pages and gets right to the posts. |
I'll look into the move thread issue...
Updated the lite version to have pages at the bottom of the screen for those with older cell phones. I also fixed the paging problem... was just some test code I left in there... ooops! I also added a new profile option where you can select the date format. This will allow you to choose how you'd like dates to appear, but I kept it pretty tight for now. I don't think there's a huge demand for total control over it, so just 3 basic display styles. (MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, and YYYY/MM/DD) Will have fixed buttons shortly and I think that's the last of the issues from yesterday! |
When you go to the Industry forum it only displays down to Eagle Sports & Tactical and you can not get back to any of the other forums using the tabs.
Thanks for the upgrades, by the way. The site's getting better everytime we turn around.
Doh! When I added the date formatting, I forgot to ensure a check for nulls. All fixed! |
I can be a mod for Cars and Bikes if needed. |
DUDE! EVERY time you update the site I cant come in throught the main page. I get the screen saying site down, same thing with other URL's. I had to come in through the help page.
Deleted ALL my cookies etc TOO! This is driving me Just thought I'd share |
Lite version is teh cool! I can surf ARFCOM on my cell when I'm bored now.
I may actually have to put some more effort into learning the controls of the web browser... |
That's not normal!!!! Either you're caching pages somehow or your ISP has some funky issues going on. It's not like it's a DNS or routing issue that I create. If you are still seeing the "SITE DOWN" page, then it's a cache issue. You running a personal firewall? Browser caching setup funky? BTW I updated all the forum buttons now to work with the skins. Should be eaiser to read and more colorful. |
I would guess he is running through an improperly configured squid/cache firewall from his ISP. NonConformist: When you look at your web settings, does it have a proxy address? If so, try removing it and see if your Internet still works. It might be slower on some pages, but only those that others on your local net aren't acessing (ar15.com would NOT be in that list). |
AR15.com gets the site down page. www.AR15.com works.
I was going to be a smarty pants and suggest you do a lite version so I could browse on my cell phone. Of course, you're way too busy and it would have been rude to even ask... |
as a full-time mobile user (I work for MSN Mobile), I say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
and now... how bout them rss feeds? |
This is probably unrelated to the update, but I have a question. Are you aware that clicking on some links causes new windows to open, and sometimes it doesn't? I don't know if it's something that was intentionally planned or not.
When viewing "My Active", "Active" topics, or a list of search results, clicking on a thread causes it to open in a new window. Also, clicking on any hotlink within any threads also opens a new window. But, when viewing the topics in just one forum, i.e. "General Discussion" or "EE - Wanted to Buy" - if you click them, it opens the thread in the same window. I get used to clicking the big X to close the new window when I'm done with it but always find myself not remembering I'm in the same window when viewing Hometown and other individual forums, and I end up closing out the whole browser. |
Intentional.
All the search type tools open new windows because the load is heavy when you do a search, my active topics, etc. It's a very light load other times. The reason a new window opens when you click on a link in the forums is in case it takes you to a random page off the site. That's pretty standard stuff. |
Looks like a lot of work has go into the upgrades. Works and looks great the speed on a dail up of the Lite version is fast.
Thanks GB From the 1st post in this thread
Buttons name at top of page. Lite |
New site works great with one exception (at home only). The first 3 advertisers at the top of the page are blank. I can see from Bravo Co on over to the right. Also the orange bar on top of them is only visible along the top edge.
Not a big deal, but it's driving me nuts. Works fine at work (just between us). Running xp pro IE at home NT IE at work. |
I've asked just about everyone..
but the Photo Server is on the Fritz.. I cant log in (invalid Password no matter what I do) PLEASE advise, or help, or ??? Thanks a ton! -Jason |
