I will be heading to Italy, Romania, and, Bulgaria in the next 20 days or so for vacation. I would love to bring back some gun parts, mags, stock sets, ect. Maybe even a few bayos or knives. What are the regulations regarding shipping these items back via common carrier? I am an FFL and was looking at the ATF's website. According to them it is even possible for me to ship a firearm back via ATF form (53303A). I don't think I will have time to get the form in to bring a complete weapon back. To keep things simple what regs do I have to follow if it’s even possible for me to send parts back at all? Most of the parts I am looking for I don't believe will fall under the ATF sporting clause, mostly AK parts. Any info and experiences you guys have had will be great. I can't seem to find much of anything on the web, and when I called the ATF they weren’t even sure.

I wouldn't try shipping back a rifle. Too much redtape. I'd imagine you could bring back a bayo though. Not sure about the gunparts.

Without any type of import paperwork planned out ahead of time........ don't plan on bringing any kind of goodies home.

If you're going to the Black Sea region of Bulgaria (like Varna), then gun parts wil be THE LAST thing on your mind!!!

Misc. firearm parts (excluding receivers and barrels, possibly other parts) with total value UNDER $100 don't need a ATF form 6 for import.

I have no idea what regulations, if any, the state dep't or others have.

Knives, bayos ... pack securely, use a reliable carrier.  

The rest...be frugal.  Keep it under a hundred.

Baynoets and stocks shouldn't be a problem.  Miscellaneous parts shouldn't be either.  Auto knives are a no-no.  When I worked for Customs we'd see all kinds of stuff brought back. You probably wouldn't have time for a Form 6 for a firearm unless you're going over for months.

When you bring stuff back make sure it's declared on the Customs form and be prepared for secondary inspection.  If you are importing for your business you'll need a manifest, invoices and other paperwork. If your importing for you, you don't need squat, but I would keep receipts for duty purposes.

Items that the Inspector can't identify may be taken for further eval by an Import Specialist.   You will receive a receipt for these things.  Check the Customs website for the "Know Before you Go" pamphlet.
