Where u at?Corsairs are pretty cool.I last saw one at the cleveland air show years ago.That air show is usually laborday weekend.

mentor, lost nation is the airport. the show is called "a gathering of eagles". can't wait to leave work and go see!

There is a P-51 that flys into the local airport quite abit. And a locally owned DC-3 (C-47) parked there. I tear ass outside every time I hear one of these flying over.

Last summer a Spitfire circled town and landed. I grabbed the kid and ran out to the airport. [8D]

I haven't seen (or heard [;)]) a Corsair.

I used to work at the Kalamazoo Airport in MI. They have an aviation museaum on the grounds that had vintage planes flying daily. That was one of the best parts of that job.

One evening for no particular reason, I walked out to the airfield side of the fire station and on the taxiway about 100' away was a B-17 and a B-24 taxiing out to take off. That's something you don't see every day. There aren't too many of those left.

I work across from the Dayton airport, and starting Monday (all week) there will be all kinds of aircraft coming for the Air show next weekend. We see F-16, F-14, C5, C17, B1B, F-117,
among others, and this year it will be the THUNDER BIRDS. They usually come in Wed morning and "get it", then fly numerous times Thursday and Friday. Nothing much gets done at our place during certain times of the day. We have a lone AF F-16 that majorly gets it on 2 times a day also.

Several years ago I was fishing in my stock pond in late October. If you've ever heard a radial engine you know the sound from anywhere. The Confederate Airforce's B-17 Texas Raider flew right over my little stock pond. I ffelt kinda guilty glassing it with the scope on my 10/22 but I just had to get a closer look. Just as it was out of hearing range I hear a new set of motors. The entire Tora Tora Tora group of Japanese planes flew over. It looked like the Kates, Nates, and Zero's were chasing that lone B-17. Spooky as hell.

I was working out on a hill outside the medium sized town I work in when I noticed a B-29 flying over the town at about 1500 feet. It just happened to be the day they tested the civil defense sirens. You want to talk about a chilling experience. I'll never forget that sight.

We just had a couple P-51's at the airshow in ST. Louis on the 4th of July.
It is written that when the commander of the Luftwaffe saw the first P-51's in aerial battle he knew that Germany was defeated.

The Corsair is my favorite WWII plane.

What really impresses me is when they pull pitch with the F15 off the ground and climb her straight up until you almost can not see her.

I saw one of the most kickass things on this 4th of July that I will never forget. After the B1 did his 3rd fly by with his wings swept back he banked the aircraft, increased the power, and started climbing at about a 20 degree angle directly away from me. You could see the engines glowing and then he rolled her over upside down while he still was in his 20 degree climb. Then he rolled it back while still climbing out of the vicinity. That plane has some serious balls. I was also really surprised that the pilot rolled that big ass plane upside down for us.

Beautiful aircraft all. Make mine a P38L Lightning. Nothing like twin Allison V12's going overhead at 100 ft. to make the hair on your neck stand up. Nice posts, all of you. AD ASTRA!

There was a B-17 in Colorado a couple weekends ago selling rides for $350 a pop. Too spendy for me.
I did see it flying over my workplace at lunch one day.

The same B-17 was up here in Anchorage in early July. I saw it in flight, too. Pretty amazing.

same time a couple of years ago i heard a strange aircraft noise, and ran out just in time to see a BIG silver b-17 fly over.

several years ago i was floating in my in-laws pool by akron-canton a.p. a cessna dragonfly (small jet) came SCREAMING over the treetops and banked right over the house- cool!

drove my sister out to l.a. last year to live with her fiance. we're walking along venice beach and i hear a piston engine- SPITFIRE a few hundred feet off the deck, heading out to sea. then banked and flew away. i couldn't believe my eyes, but after all, it was l.a. probably was being filmed for 'pearl harbor'. LOTS of adventures on that trip.

my fav at the airshow is the high speed flyover!
love them loud tomcats!

i love the sound of aircraft engines!! except turbo-fans - blah!

I had just got to Ft. Carson in "82" I think and was doing a MILES train up course, I heard radiel engines and looked and low and behold a B25 escorted by 3 Mustangs and a Thunderbolt I was,.... awlstruck (sp). Found out the Confederate air force was in town and just left. But that was amazing.

What? no hangover from the flats? A school buddy of mine has a few choppers at an airport out this way, Hueys and a Cobra or two...flyable. He found out I was 67N30 and wants me to visit the airport, I wonder why?

I was just at another airshow in Geneseo NY this weekend. I was able to meet two more Tuskegee Airman at this event. I got an autographed photo of one when he was sitting on the edge of his plane in 1944 in Italy, he was 19. The other was the lucky guy to shoot down the 1st Me 262 of the war! His gun camera footage was used to train other pilots how to down them. They both autographed my Tuskegee Airman T-shirt. It has been a recent pet project to learn as much about the Flying Tigers and Tuskegee Airman as I can, they were both skrewed by the government but for differnat reasons. My fave plane is the Hawker Sea Fury, fasted prop fighter made but was just being delivered at wars end. I saw a p-51, F4-U Corsair, and a Spitfire (Mk-IV I think.) Takes my breath away!

I was doing yardwork one day when I heard the unmistakable sounds of a B17 flying by. When it got closer, I noticed there was also a P51 flying formation with it. My big butt never moved faster than when I ran into my house to grab a camera. I just wish I had the time to get my SLR with a zoom lens on it. It was quite an inspiring sight.

Awesome - love those WWII warbirds. There were quite a few on hand when the D-Day Museum opened in New Orleans in June 2000. Seeing P-51s in the skies over the city was a rare treat, and then the F-15s of the Louisiana ANG flew over.

I'm looking forward to October, when the airshow in Lafayette, LA will feature a new flight exhibition team - F-104s!

It's been many years since I last saw a "Missile With A Man in It" fly (the last time, I was in elementary school and they were still testing the air raid siren every day at noon). The F-104s used to rattle my mom's china cabinet back then - they were still allowed to go supersonic. I think it's wonderful that someone is bringing back some of the kickass Cold War planes for people to enjoy.

I absolutly love the P-51 Mustang. They are my favorite planes of all time. Some of you may have seen my thread on how much it would cost to buy one. The noise of the Merlin engine gives me chills.

mach-1- thanks for the pics! the ONLY thing better than a machinegun is a piston engined aircraft witn machineguns! i love those old warbirds. a few years ago my inlaws got me a flight in an t-6 texan for my b-day. cool! i had european airwar and jane's ww2 fighters on my old computer. i was like a junkie! i miss 'em.
