We had an interesting little situation this morning down here on Tybee Island.  A Cessna 170 piloted by a woman with another woman as passenger was flying from central Florida to Charleston, SC.  She was following the coast and as she passed over the island, her engine started sputtering and popping.  I saw her make a 180, head south, and start descending.  I jumped in the car and headed for the south myself.  About halfway down the island where it makes a big bend, she sat it down on the beach and did a great job in the sand.  It dug in pretty good.  If it had been a tail dragger I'm pretty sure it would have nosed over.  Turned out to be mechanical problem.  Here is the plane.

This is the most exciting thing to happen on this sleepy little island in a long time.

No, they just came strolling up to see what happened.  The girls in the plane left pretty quick, probably to go buy new underwear.

You hit right on each side of her age of 16!  She was real friendly and her mom, the other blonde didn't seem to care, but when she said she was 16, part of me went 'oh yeeaahhhh', but then the part of me that wanted to stay out of jail said 'warning will robinson, danger, danger'.  So gorgeous, yet so young.  Damn.

UPDATE.  This was just on the local news.  It turns out the occupants of the plane were two women from Holland on vacation here.  This was a rental plane, which was already known.  What is a kicker is that the pilot has only been flying for only a year!  Man, she did a job.  Talking to her, you would never know she was from anywhere but the US.  Perfect English with no accent.

I'm in love [whacko] I think I'll call her Trixie.

In California, girls like that are a dime a dozen. But it's still good. :)
