I have a choice, and by now I am sure millions more that have read my posts relating to same!
A smart man plans ahead, and would have by now stockpiled enough ammo of all calibers that any enemy or potential enemy would use! WHY? Well using the enemies logistics, is the first thing that comes to mind, like in taking the enemies weapons at every opportunity! Not for the meek and timid however!

I love this theory, limit yourself to the caliber the enemy has, after all he knows best. What a bunch of armchair commdo fantasy. Why?
Limit yourself to your enemies cartridge and you limit yourself to the same effective range as your enemy. Take the range advantage that comes with a superior cartridge.
Depending on the enemy for your ammo source leaves vulnerable to salted ammo (we did it in Vietnam), follow me home transmitters, and other ambushes and boobytraps.
Becoming dependant on the enemy for supplies means yoiu have to spend much more time in the danger area attempting to resupply, leaving you vulnerable to the follow on forces coming to the enemies aid, including air support. You are much better off if you can engage from a distance and then withdraw.
If it comes to the popint where you must use the enemy for resupply as a last resort, just grab a weapon then, Don't limit yourself to the same limitaions they have untill then.
A smarter man, would have in place SOP's to deal with any enemy collaborators, or locals who would support any effort to disarm the citizenry!
