Oklahoma deputy jailed in sexual exploitation of a child

GUYMON, OKLA. - A Texas County Sheriff's deputy arrested Friday for allegedly posting sexually explicit pictures of an 8-year-old girl on the Internet might have done it for money, an official with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday.

Deputy James Mark Bishop, 32, of Hooker faces one count of sexual exploitation of a child after OSBI finished a one-week investigation into the sexually explicit pictures, said Jessica Brown, a spokesperson for the bureau.

OSBI learned of the pictures when a man in Colorado contacted the bureau, Brown said.

"Somehow this viewer figured where the pictures had come from," Brown said. "His attorney contacted OSBI and that got the process going."

Bishop remained in Beaver County Jail in Beaver late Tuesday in lieu of a $500,000 bond, Brown said.

Brown said their investigation into the pictures indicate the motivation for the alleged act "was probably monetary," Brown said.

Although investigators don't think there are any more victims, they are looking into the possibility, Brown said.

Bishop started as a Texas County Sheriff's deputy Feb. 17, 2003, and had previously worked for other area law enforcement agencies, Bishop said.

"The man had a very pristine law enforcement career behind him," Brown said.

Brown said that throughout the investigation, Texas County Sheriff Arnold Peoples and others within the department have been extremely cooperative.

osbi kept our agency out of the picture in this one(did us a favor) talked to this guy the day before the arrest. I just can't imagine what was going on in his head to do something like this. He hurt his family, himself, the community and local l.e. all in one stroke. he was also a 91 desert storm veteran. the ivestigation is still ongoing and it may get worse. The more I hear about this the worse it gets. I need a beer

The deputy must have understood how sick it is to do such a thing.  I just don't get it.

btwhe got 400.00 for the pics and was going to use it for fireworks for the fourth. He told me a week ago he had save the money for fireworks did'nt think anything of it. I would have given him the $$$ to avoid him doing that to his daughter.

Also cops (or ex-cops) don't  go into gen-pop, they are kept in a separate ward or area for ex-cops for their own safety.

you're probably right. i would'nt either. you just don't know people sometimes. he was this other person that nobody he worked with knew. i don't feel sorry for him but I do feel sorry for his family they did'nt ask for this.

He's not a police officer, he's a child molestor. A real cop would never do something like that.

Yesterday 08-19-05 there were 14 additional charges of "knowingly downloading child pornography" filed against him. O.S.B.I took his computer and found that stuff.

Why would you say that(liberty86)? I've known this guy for almost 8 years. I myself will let the courts sort this thing out. I do think that he has hurt a lot of people here in his actions. His family most of all. Does he deserve mercy? Do any of us?
