Hi Guys:

Have you been at the Bushmaster website lately:
http://www.bushmaster.com/
They are claiming that in 1999 just 120.000 AR-15 were sold to the civilian market in the U.S. This sounds incredibly low to me. Are there so few of us? I am shocked. What do you guys think?

It would be interesting to hear a dealers comments on this. However, this sounds reasonable but probably does not include private transfers, non ffl transfers, etc.

Does this just included civilian sales?  I would imagine LEO or military transers to be a much higher number (around 30+ million), so I'm just making an assumption here.

120,000 in one year is pretty good.  That was during the Y2K craze too, so my bets are that is unusually high for sales.

Were these newly manufactured AR-15s or used and new sold through FFLs?  You didn't specify.  If they are all new, and it seems from the way it is quoted that they were, that is a very high figure.

I wish I had one of the 120,000.

That's 333.33333 a day, 7 days a week. From that perspective it sounds like alot. If you add the total sold from all of the other AR15 manufacturers that year the number would be a Hell of alot higher.

You probably have 1 of the 10 million 10/22's, and 1 of 15 million .38's.  With high-powered weapons like that, who needs an AR15?

Troy,
Am one of those you spoke of. Before '94, only had 3 pistols: Ruger MkII, S&W 36 & 29, at 20 years of shooting & reloading. AR friends around the ban, have made ARs easy to buy now. Thank you all. Be safe.
