It's a variant of the BM59 which is a variant of the M1 Garand. The BM62 had the Tri-comp, bipod, bayo lug, and spindle valve/grenade sight deleted in an effort to make a civilianized rifle. In place of the Tri-comp it used a muzzle brake. All BM59 parts fit and interchange...

The BM-62 is the "sporter" version of the BM-59.
Therefore all the "evil" devices has been removed.  No compensator/Flash hider etc.

These rifles are basically a "chopped" down M1a/M14.

The recoil is low compared to my HK-91.

I believe the orginal importer(Bergen) only imported about 2000 of these rifles into the US.
