I'm thinking about a new bike for commuting, KLR 650. I was curious what kind of mileage this class of bikes gets. With some of them having 3 or less gallon fuel tanks whats the range? The KLR 650 has a 6.1. My old ZG1000 Councours had a 7.4.

Had a 93 KLR 650.  Consistent 50 MPG,, refueled every 250 miles to be safe.

You can buy Acerbis desert tank s for most of the bigger dual-sport bikes (enduro is so 70's).

"New" KLR is the same as the "old" KLR.  From 1987 to the present, the only things they changed were A: removed kick starter hole, and B: upgraded clutch.  Cam chain tensioner will still crap out, and you should still get a doohicky for it.
