I was hoping to hear about this as well... Anyone know more about KLR 650 mileage or KLR 250 mileage? How about the other models listed?

Had a 93 KLR 650. Consistent 50 MPG,, refueled every 250 miles to be safe.

You can buy Acerbis desert tank s for most of the bigger dual-sport bikes (enduro is so 70's).

i have heard the new klr 650 gets 55-58 mpg

"New" KLR is the same as the "old" KLR. From 1987 to the present, the only things they changed were A: removed kick starter hole, and B: upgraded clutch. Cam chain tensioner will still crap out, and you should still get a doohicky for it.
