I was wondering if anyone knows if it is legal to take a M1A into California?  I have a friend who is thinking about it and he had heard that it was illegal due to the fact that the gun could accept magazines that were larger than 10 rounds.  This sounds odd to me.  Is this really the California law?

Thanks!

He's right that it's not legal, but wrong about the reason.  The reason is that it has a Flash Suppressor.  Springfield sells a brake that would make it legal.

You could take into Cali with the brake, but only with 10 round mags as 20 rounders are evil.

I concur, I own a preban Springfield M1A and I had to either remove the flash suppressor like was previously mentioned (making it a NOT assualt weapon) or leave my original flash suppressor and register it with the department of justice.  Isn't California going downhill?
