No, I'm not mad, I'M F**KIN FUMING MAD.
Here's why.
I have severe arthritis and I have been on this mild chemo medicine for several years to slow the deteriation. Because I take this medicine, I have to get blood drawn once a month to check the levels of it along with other liver tests to make sure it doesn't kill me.
My normal Dr. retired so I had to get a different Dr. in that clinic. He re-staffed most of the employees with new, but incompetant people. After 1 1/2 years of nothing but problems, I went to a completely different clinic and aquired a new Dr..
This isn't what I'm mad at, but what I'm about to tell you is.
My second time I went in there for my monthly blood work up I ran into a problem.
The nurse calls me back there and as she was going through my chart, she tells me she can't do my blood work because she can't find an order from my specialist dated for that day.
I ask her if it's all right to call them for a replacement. "No, I don't have time for it and I'm not going to do it!"
I then explain it has to be done on that specific day of the week for medical reasons, Dr's. orders.
"So, I can't help you without the order."
I say fine, I'll take care of it myself and walk away in a slight huff.
I get out in the lobby and tell my kids it's time to go, and we leave.
I go home and call my specialist to have them fax it to that clinic.
I then call that clinic and ask for that nurse to let her know what's going on and appologise for just walking away without explaining in detail I was going to contact my specialist for her.
She gets on the phone and asks me what's with the fit.
I explain to her I was upset with the last clinic (In detail) and that I am in chronic pain due to the weather and I sort of took it out on her.
She then tells me they are no longer going to offer me health care because they don't need people like me there and it doesn't look good to other patients, they are refusing me service because of the scene I made. I explain to her politely that I made no scene and used no abusive language, etc, plus I even appologised, can't they give me another chance? She then rudely tells me off then slams the phone down on my ear.
I call back and talk to the office manager. She tells me she has to talk to the Dr. about it. I also find out the normal Dr. in that clinic I use along with his nurse are on vacation.
After about 5 minutes, she gets back on and informs me the nurse already talked to the Dr. and set it in stone, no service for me, EVER.
Can you believe that! They aren't my normal Dr. or nurse and they black balled me from the place.
I put it together and figured out why.
That nurse felt overwelmed so she didn't want to do it, and when I hurt her ego by doing it myself, she got mad and figured since I'm not their patient, but the other Dr's, who cares.
Has anyone else had a similiar experience like this?
If so, what did you do.
I do know they can legally do that because it's not the emergency room.
I'm going to try to contact my Dr. when he comes back but I don't think I can go back even if he allows me, due to the harrassment I will receive from that nasty nurse when she see's me.
I admit, I did kind of walk away in a slight huff, but I did and said nothing wrong that would cause them to black ball me.

I know very little about the medical profession, but I offer this advice. They are licensed and there are boards of people who over see these licenses. I would raise holly heck with with these people if it was I. Good luck.

If the bitch couldn't take the little heat you gave her she has no business being a nurse in the first place. That's probably why she is working in a clinic and not in a hospital.

Wow.Was this a VA clinic by any chance?

I have delt with emotional patinets many times and sometimes they do come across rude and evil. That said 9 times out of 10 they are just reacting to the situation the only way they know how (squeaky wheel gets the oil). Many will apologize and explain their indifference the best way they know how. Most folks are just tired of being lied to and shuffled back and forth ( ME INCLUDED!) Most folks just want their problem acknowledged (ME INCLUDED!)


I realize this, but maybe she doesn't (or just didn't want to). I think the nurse you delt with is either burnt out or PMSing, and she in turn blew smoke up the docs ass to assure he would side with her.
Either way, her actions were uncalled for. I think the doctor is just relying on the info she presented him.

Be advised..many of those people in the office are "6 month wonders" (medical assistants). They will bullshit you like their is no tomorrow!

I'd get ahold of your regular doctor when he gets back. Seek recourse through common sense communication that is productive.

You should be able to file a complaint on-line with your state's attorney's general ofice.  There may be different requirements because it involves the medical field.  If so, the AG site should direct you to the proper agency.  Good luck.

I'd file a complaint with your doctor and file a complaint against the on site doctor to your states medical board.  After all, it was his decision, not the nurses.  I would also file a complaint with my insurance company against all involved parties.

However, I hope you are more forthcoming in your complaint that you are in your post.  I find it truly unbelievable that the "facts" presented are complete.

I don't.  A friend's car broke down and he called his doctor's office to canx an appointment.  The nurse, receptionist, whatever told him he would be charged $75.00 because he didn't give 24 hours notice.  While he was upset he never used abusive language or raised his voice.  The same person called him back 15-20 minutes later and told him he was being charged an additional $75.00 for his "attitude."  I would probably have reservations about the accuracy of his story had I not heard his side of both phone conversations.

I agree. That is probably the most productive course of action open to you.

They have the right to terminate the doctor-patient relationship, but they have to jump through a few hoops to avoid later liability. At the very least, they must send you a registered letter stating that they are no longer providing you care, and will forward your records to the provider of your choice.



I agree with this statement as well. Booting a patient from a practice is fairly unusual. Are there any extenuating circumstances? Perhaps the reimbursement from your insurance is so lousy that it literally isn't worth it to them to fill out the forms. Something like that.

I gave you all the facts in a nut shell to try to keep my origional post some what short, but I'll add to it.
I live in the south and in a rual area between 2 towns. The town that Dr. is in is about 15-20 minutes away. It is a small town that has 2 Dr's. offices in it. One small office, and the one I had problems with is a larger clinic. They have a monopoly here, mostly with a big food proccessing plant. It is common knowledge that people get mistreated by this clinic. People put up with it because the next town over which is about 10 minutes away has a hospital that is liturally a meat market. They also have an extremely poor billing system. The billing system is, you never get a bill. Instead, 4-6 weeks later, you get a certified letter from a collection agency with a court order to garnish your wages. This happens to about 95% of the people. That Dr. that black balled me does surgery once or twice a week at that hospital and he knows there isn't much around so they can do what they want. I'm sure there has been many complaints filed against them, but nothing is ever done.
What amazes me is people put up with it because they don't want to drive 30 minutes to a town with some good Dr's. The only reason I went to that place is the Dr. I was seeing there is an outsider who cares about people. He does work at a free clinic once a week which is 30 minutes away from me (Which is were I'm going to go so I can talk to him about it cause they won't let me in the door) plus, it is closer to me.
Maybe that's why they did it to me, My Dr is an outsider, and maybe they are tryng to run his patients off because they don't want him there. I have seen it happen here in other fields many times.
What I said happened in my first post is right on the money. When I went in there, I was pleasant, and this nurse had an attitude towards me from the start.
Maybe she was having a bad day, or what I just said, I don't know, but she didn't have to take it out on me.
Most of the people that work there were born and raised here in this southern area and they aren't too hospitable to outsiders like myself to begin with.
In any case, I'm going to talk to my Dr. about it just in the event there is a conflict going on between the 2 Dr's and he needs to know about this stuff to put a stop to it.

Doctors in general are some of the most arrogant people around. Not all, but most.

My advice is to call the FDA on Monday and tell them exactly what happened, and the reason they gave you for refusing service. Docotrs take an oath to NOT refuse service to anyone.

if you were in colo, i would swear that you dealt with the same cu%^&*t i had dealings with last year.
i gave 2 weeks notice that i needed to move my apt. seems according to her that even with the problem i had, it wasn't serious enough to warrant getting me in in less than 6 weeks from original apt.
explained to her that the doctor (her employer) wanted me in asap. she then gets condensending and says "well i'm not the one who cancelled the apt!). ask to speak to someone else, never hear back until i get a letter in the mail informing me that due to my attitude i was not going to be accepted as a patient!!!!. even when my primary doc called he said he was treated the same rude way i was!!!!.
REMEMBER THEY ARE PRACTIONERS-THE'RE JUST PRACTICING!!

Hey Sid, I think you mad at the worng person.  Its a bitchy nurse that you ran into and not the doc.  The people  up front can make or break you.  I wouldn't do anything until you speak to the doc yourself.  A lot of the times, he will have no clue that they even spoke to you.  Yes the nurses at some clinic make the calls without telling the doctor.  A lot of nurses that I have dealt with are extremely passive aggressive.  They do a lot of shitty work for not much money so they act out.  One of their favorite things to do is to get the docs in trouble.  But speak the the boss one on one and see what happens. Another favorite thing nurses do is keep info from the doc and play dumb when confronted.  I will write an order and if its not in formt of their face they will ignore it.  I ahve also met some kick ass nurses that cared and were extremely professional.  Hey have to deal with a lot of shit literally and some get burned out.  But good luck, hope the pain get better.

Then I spoke too soon.  I was lucky growing up in a two doctor town.  The clinic was a POS and the country doctor was the best man I ever met.  RIP.
I would definitely file with the proper state authorities.  Hicks or not, they have the same rules, and complaints go down in their permanent record.  Not much solace for you.  However, I think my first step after talking to the "good" doctor would be to write a letter to the "bad" doctor as everything about his refusal to service you is hearsay at this point.
