What's your favorite/worst thing(s) about your job?

My favorites are the travel, and all the new people I get to meet.

The worst things about my job is the pay, and the lack of free time.

I guess the best thing about my job is that is extremely easy and the pay is decent. Most of the time Im sitting in a clean room doing work on a computer or playing on the net. Its also compressed shift (12hr days-Thur, Fri, Sat and every other Wed) so I have half of the week off which gives me a lot of play time.

The thing I hate about it most is the monotony of the work. Its the same easy stuff over and over again and it will never end. That and having to put on a suit to go in the clean room and changing shoes constantly, Ive got three pairs of shoes while Im at work. Other than that its pretty cushy.

Favorite thing about my job is I work for myself

What I don't like is winter puts a halt on business and that affects the yearly total.

Good part with my job is 3 day weekends for 5 months during the summer. Bad thing is overtime to no end during the snow season.

If you don't mind my asking, what type of work do you do? Are you a bouncer or something?

Upside: Great co-workers (for the most part), good pay, challenging enough intellectually at times to keep it from getting stale.

Downside: Belligerent customers and uncooperative employees in other departments.

I actually had one customer ask to speak to "the person in charge of me" because the resolution to their trouble was not what he wanted to hear.  I told my supervisor that and she laughed, saying, "I don't think that person exists!!" [:D]

The worse is the stress of my job.

But the best part is reaching production goals and getting things shipped out early.

Oh, after the the stress, the pay is awful, 60% of others in my field.

MM, that was too funny what your supervisor said.

favorite, pay is good and hours are flexable,

worst, hotter n, hell im summer, boring, just enuf thought required to keep from "spacingout" but still unstimulating, the WORST is ALWAYS being timed, they have a genus system, your preformance is tracked on computers and everytihn you do , the computer finds out EVERYTHING.

The worst thing about my job right now would have to be having to wear a second chance vest. It gets incredibly hot walking around in those things, but it could very well save my ass one of these days.[:d]

The worst thing is that I have no friends to help me play with them.

Bad things:

A female technician who has lousy attendance and is on the verge of being terminated comes into my office crying while telling me her boyfriend kicked her out of the house and physically abuses her.  I advise her, "don't end up like O.J.'s ex-old lady.

One of my best operators and a relief supervisor is terminated because a random drug screen reveals pot in his system.  During the termination meeting the guy starts crying.

A woman in my department doing clerical work is found to be keeping a "diary" on company time documenting the activities of her co-workers.  Most of the entries are negative, e.g. "Mary caught smoking in testing room."  She isn't too discreet about where she keeps the diary and it falls into the hands of the people she wrote about.  When I give the clerk a disciplinary layoff (second offense) she starts crying.

I've never cried during any discussions with my bosses.  Why can't everyone else be like me when it comes to controlling the waterworks???

I am an armourer. I love my job. Been at for 25 yrs! Like tinkering and test firing new and unique weapons. The latest the Accuracy Int'l AWF 'SR-98' in 7.62mm NATO. Did some barrel changes last week.

What I hate about my job (besides not being able to take my work home) is the assholes and F**kwhits who dictate the politics of the place. These guys can spoil a day in the blink of a bandicoots eye. Call 'em pencil necked safety geeks if you wish!

Worst part:

Heavy lifting (construction)
Waking up early

Best Part:
Done at 3:15pm
Keeps me in shape ( I can eat/drink anything and I won't gain a pound).
Good pay/benefits.
moving around from job to job. (If you happen to work with a bunch of A-holes, it usually doesn't last too long).

Best thing about my job?

I'm a FC.

I get paid to blow shit up, and skate the rest of the time.

76mm shoots
SM-1 missile shoots
CIWS pacfires (nothing like being a safety observer of CIWS and 76mm gun.)[whacko]
M-14 shoots
50cal shoots
9mm shoots

and skating......

What I don't like,
the list is too long.. so far I have about 1,789 reasons why I shouldn't re-enlist.

best- i get paid well for what i do.
mostly, i'm my own boss.
lots of time at work for other activities.
i like the responsibility.

worst- i am only a brief stop for the money.[:(]

when business is slooow (no sales=no $- the bill collectors still take theirs!)

Like-Best Paying job for a college student within 75 miles.

Hate-Almost everything else.  Being tracked by computers every second I am at work, talking to some of the dumbest people in America that get furious with me because their phone got shut off cuz they dont pay their bills, and like Miss Magnum, every 15th person wants to talk to my supervisor because they don't like what I tell them. Oh, I could go on and on but in two more years I will be doing something I will LOVE.  That makes it somewhat worth it.

As a railroader, I like pretty much everything about my job. I especially like the wide variety of people, geography and climate I have been exposed to. From the shores of Puget Sound to the snowcapped Cascades, the frozen windswept plains of the Dakotas in the winter to the blistering heat and humidity of a Texas summer. I like fooling around with thousands of horsepower and thousands of tons of train. Thundering down the main line is an experience most people do not soon forget, if ever. I love the roar of turbocharged diesels and the smell of diesel exhaust. I like not being closely supervised, if at all. I love being outdoors even if it means in the rain, snow, or whatever else Mother Nature throws my way. It beats being a cubicle monkey every time. I like having a job that is little exclusive and not many other people can handle. It's also kind of fun to see railfans show up and take such a passionate interest in what you are doing.

If there is a downside to all of this, it would be the schedule. I can adjust to work any shift on a regular basis, but working an extra board where you are on call 24 hours a day and subject to working at any given time can run you a little ragged. Fatigue is a big issue in this industry. This is why I generally work as a switchman. I have to settle for earning only about 50K per year, but the schedule is quite a bit more predictable and I usually wind up working a mere 30-35 hours per week.

Fav- Good employees, easy schedule, not much travel, pay is decent and able to surf the net.

Worst- Bad employees (specially during review time), too much travel (that was 3 years ago), Network down, server crashed and impatient customer.
