inspired by the Rugers wear out post has anyone ever shot a gun till it wore out?
I do have a friend that destroyed a Glock 17 by cracking the frame and never doing maintenence on it. He was the 3rd owner as far as he knew.

I've worn out a couple match barrels, but not an entire rifle.

I have a C96 30's Model that was imported from China in the late 1980's. The bore is devoid of any trace of rifling.

I doubt there was much recreational/target shooting in China during the last 60yr's. Too bad the old Broom can't speak...

And to add-------

Replaced boltstop and firingpin. Gun works fine---------Just not quite a sub-MOA shooter...!

1965 Ruger Mk I .22 pistol.  It's just too tired to keep going.

My M-16 in basic was pretty worn when I got it.  I think I pushed it over the edge though.  The barrel was shot, the bolt and carrier were worn to nothing...would rattle inside the weapon when I walked.  The drills didn't want to be anywhere near me when I shot.  Especially with blanks...they feared the pressure would cause it to blow to peices.

You've got a defective gun, and should return it for warranty service. My now-closed indoor range Santa Anita Firing Range, Monrovia Calif(10 mileas east of L.A.) had a rental Glock 17 that has gone 500,000 on the original slide when it cracked the slide and was replaced by Glock, when the range closed the gun had 750,000 official rounds on the clock(ie ammo bought from the range), and probably more because the owners know that some people smuggle in rounds from the local Wall-Mart.

shot a taurus 66 with many 10of thousands of rnds. of full pressure 357 mag. loads, the rifling was gone for an inch past the forcing cone, had a hair trigger in single action, the cylinder and crane arm was loose, then it split the forcing cone, sent it back to the factory for their "lifetime warranty" got it back about a year later, they either did a damn good job rebuilding it or just junked it and sent a new one, but I've shot it a shitload since getting it back, still fairly accurate but the cylinder is getting loose and the trigger is really light again in single action, gonna see if they'll warranty it again, if not at least I feel I got my monies worth out of it.

I literally melted the barrel on an M-60 Mg once on a night live fire in Baumholder Germany, the barrel went translucent, as I was firing you could actually see the rounds going down the tube. When we yanked the fucker off and  threw it down it started a grass fire. The armor said the barrel was FUBAR totally warped.

I put a little over 20K rounds through a Ruger MII target. Had an AR that had a bit more than 30k through it and a 92f with a bit more than 10k through it.

All of them were "Well broken in."

Wore out? Meh, they still went bang and mostly shot where you pointed them.

I wonder if my friend still has the Glock? I should take it off him for safety reasons

I have a Sistema Colt that has an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 rounds down the barrel, which looks like a sewer pipe.  Most 1911 "experts" who have looked at it can't believe the thing can fire anything resembling a group.

Despite the horrible looking condition of the barrel the pistol still shoots really tight groups (I can put 7 of 7 on a 5 gallon bucket at 130 yards, even with those awful tiny old style sights) so I just can't bring myself to replace the barrel.  I just know as soon as I do the groups will go to shit!

I voted "Only parts wear out".

I have a first run Kimber Custom Classic 1911 that I never counter the rounds fired.  Bought it in 1995 or 96.....don't remember.   ANyway, the finish is wearing off in places, down to bare metal in a few places on the grip frame.  The plunger tube is coming unstaked, and now the slide stop is starting to walk out while firing and jamming up the gun.  But I'll replace the tube and slide stop, and be back in business.

I have however worn out one gun totally.  Magnum Research "Mountain Eagle" .22 pistol.  Synthetic framed POS.  Wore out the feed lips on the synthetic magazine, and then wore out the chamber and bolt head so that it wouldn't eject properly (those were the only metal parts on the pistol).  I think my buddies and I ran 10-12 bricks of 1000 rounds through that gun in two weeks...it was THAT fun!

Year before last, one of our local shooters took his tired Browning Gold to the service center for work; they swapped his furniture onto a new gun.  The shotgun had somewhere North of 100,000 rounds shot through it.  This is the second shotgun he has worn out beyond economical repair.  The new one will last 2.5 or 3 more years unless he switches guns (not likely).
