You burn more calories eating and digesting it than the amount of calories it contains

it tastes so bad that you puke it up before it gets absorbed

I liked celery when I was a kid till the great hamster vomit incident.
I had a hamster and I fed him some celery. Ate it no problem. About 5 minutes later while the hamster was on my chest he blew chunks all over me. Not emptying his cheek pouches but blowing chunks on me. I never had the same taste for celery after that

All I know about clery is eating 4-5 stalks of celery a day can lower blood pressure (most likely the 3-n-butyl pthalide which relaxes the musceles of the arteries that regulte blood pressure allowing  the vessels to dialate). However, if one HAS salt-sensitive hypertension, don't eat MORE than 4-5 stalks, as each stalk  contains 35mg/salt...

I knew the answer about it taking more calories to digest it than it contains....but I'm WAY late. ;)
