At the Bob Pope show in Nashville I saw a pre ban Polytech AK 47 with an underfolding stock and folding bayonet for $999.00 Is this a good price? It was in excelent condidtion. It had a milled reciever, looked great, heavier than the new MAC 90's you see everywhere for $350.00 and it didn't rattle when I shook it. Does anyone know anything about the polytech's? Is it a good rifle? Is that a fair price? Thanks for the help.

I think Poly-tech is the best in Aks, I have a Poly-Tech National Match, solid as a rock no problems, I'm looking at another one myself, that sounds like a very good price if it is in good shape. We have a gun show next month here, if you dont get it I may.

That's the best price I've seen for quite a while. Let me know if you don't purchase it.

Pretty good weapon and that's a pretty good price, as long as it's not a PolyTech in .223
calibre!

The problem with PolyTech in .223 cal. is that the company did not alter the magazine well (as Norinco did) when going from 7.62x39mm to .223.
You can easily insert a Poly .223 mag into any 7.62 AK mag well, which is an enormous problem for several reasons.  Like if a novice actually puts a loaded .223 mag into a 7.62 AK!

The angle at which the .223 round is positioned for feeding is not the most advantageous, and, as a result, the Poly .223 suffers from a lot of failures to feed.

These are the most desirable of the Chinese guns.  One of the reasons people like them so much is that they put some effort in making them quite close to the AK47 pattern, not the AKM.

A Steyr Maadi (rare, not the common maadi) and anything Yugo (Rare) are the only ones better outside of the Galil and Valmet.

Buy it!

I own one of these. Paid $1010.00 NIB back in 1993. Thought I had been sort of ripped off at the time, but now I don't think so.

I remember back in 1995 and 1996 seeing the same damn thing going for $4,000. (Yes, that's right, four THOUSAND dollars!)

Either way, it's a good price for a FANTASTIC rifle. The MAK-90's don't even come close (I own one of those, too.)

Enjoy!

DRIFTPUNCH, don't you like Hungarian? I do! My SA-85M FEG imported by Kassnar has quality to spare. By the way, jump on that Polytech for $1000. You'll never be disappointed, and IF it turns out to not be what you want, you'll get your money back on it easily.

Thanks guys for helping me out. It is the 7.62X39 caliber. It was a beautiful rifle. It looked liked DriftPunch's rifle but it had a folding bayonet and the furniture was lighter, almost blonde. If the guy is there with the rifle I'm going to get it. To be honest with you, I have had that gun on my mind since the last gun show. I was thinking about it at work again today. As much as I hate to shell out a grand I'm sure it will be worth it. Hell I've got a Glock 21 with over $1400.00 invested in it...LOL Thanks again guys.

My first AK was a noname AK47/S (that's all it says on it besides "Made in China")underfolder  bought new in 1989 for a whopping $310.00. It's still one of my favorite rifles to shoot! Do yourself a favor and slip a 10in piece of pipe foam over the left arm of the stock before firing. If you shoot 300-400 rounds at a session without it your jaw will hurt a bit the next day...
