I gots a wood stocked pellet rifle (NICE one) that has a buttstock that is just TOOOOO long.

I want to cut and shorten it, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

Any thoughts????

Note: this is a $300 rifle, so I'm not interested in a hack job.

You will need a fine toothed saw.A band saw would be perfect.Lacking these a finnish saw.A hacksaw would work but would be difficcult to keep a straight line ovwer that long a distance in wood.Put a couple layers of tape an 1-2" both sides of the line you want to cut.Best to make up some sort of guide or jig to keep it straight. Also keep it level and square to the blade.
