That puts it at birth dates between '61 and '77.  Though before the 80's Baby Boomers were considered those born between '46-'64...so that would suggest that GenX started with '65.  A few have suggested that GenX birth dates go as late as '81 or so, but that's rare, it's generally described to end between '75-'79.

Yeah, I was born in 1968 too. I don't feel 36 most of the time, but when I see little 18 y/o honeys walking around, and I realise they were born about the time I got out of high school....that makes me feel old!

I was born in '77.  Just barely made it into Gen X.  I watched Dukes of Hazzard, played with Transformers and GI Joes, had a Members Only jacket, had a friend with one of those red Michael Jackson jackets with a hundred zippers all over it, and I saw the rise of cable and of MTV.  So I think I qualify.

My sister was born in '63, so I think she was just barely Gen-X on the other end.  I always thought it was dumb that some people consider that to be a baby-boomer.  Our PARENTS were baby boomers, or born during WW2 at least.

Strauss and Howe defined Generation X in their book Generations: The History of America's Future 1584 to 2069 as being born between 1961 and 1981.  The theory is that there is a recurring cycle of four types of generations in the United States, Idealist, Reactive, Civic and Adaptive.  These occur in 20 year cycles.  Generation X is also known as "The 13th Generation" and is considered a reactive type.

Gen's end is in disagreement-- it's either '77 or '79 depending on which psuedo-scientist sociologist you read.

Anyhow, ban all the music with the phony gas chambers.

The 1961 part seems a bit early... I would think sometime around '68-'70 would be more applicable to Gen X but I'm not a scientist and I have no book.

Well, it's all fuzzy logic anyway, and there's a case to be made for overlap of generational values.  In a generality, it was considered the 1921-1940 generation was "The Silents" (Adaptive), those who grew up in The Great Depression, WW-II, etc., then the Boomers (Idealist), from 1941-1960, lived through the worst of the Cold War and were mostly young adults during the hippie movement, then Gen-X.

But I'm not a sociologist, nor do I play one on TV.  I'm an ex-intel weenie who dabbles with computers for a living now.

LOL!  So, now we have various opinions that Generation X should be somewhere between 1967 and 1972.

A Generation has to take a span of about 20 years.  That's long enough for someone to be born and then breed the next generation.  It's just math.  Obviously, people born toward the beginning of a generation are going to have more in common with the previous generation and people born toward the end of the generation will have more in common with the next generation.

Me, I'm 69.
