My bud is planning on buying an '05 F150 STX 4X4. Thoughts? Who's familiar with F150 reliability?
TIA.

I have a 1996 F250.  It's a great reliable truck, and it looks like a real truck.   I can't stand the "new" fordchevydodge body styles.  They may be very reliable, but they look fucking GHEY.

I have an '04 F150 Supercrew FX4.  Got it in October, have 13,000 miles on it.  Great truck so far.  Really Really Really quiet inside.   Good ride for a truck.  No problems.

Not that really says anything about the long-term reliability

Edited to add: They don't look fucking GHEY.

A guy at work bought the supercrew a year or so ago, he loves it.   No issues and rides like a car.  Super quiet inside and damned nice ride for a 4x4 truck.   Get the 5.4, you never regret having too much power.

Love my 03 supercrew 4x4, only fear of 05 is the gas milage.  Mile is bad, but heard the new ones are considerably worse.  I get 13 or so city, and 16 with a tail wind.  average is 14.  That said, my dodge 4x4 standard cab did not get any better milage - and I was ashamed to drive the chevy that I got between them - fricken station wagon, not a truck

They are over weight so gas milage and acceleration will be less than expected, but they look good none the less and have a nice interior.

That said, im still waiting to see what Chevy does in the next couple years.

I have the 04 Lariat SCab.  Got it about 18 months ago, 14k miles ago.
100% trouble free.  It is a pleasure to drive due to how smooth and
quiet it is.  No regrets here, I'd do it again without hesitation.

Edited to add:  14.5 MPG as a commuter, in traffic.  On a trip it was up
over 17.  Lariat only came/comes with the 5.4L.

I had an 04 Lariat that was the biggest piece of crap I ever owned.  Now, no one jump in here and flame me, I'm a loyal Ford guy that has only ever owned a Ford and will buy nothing else.  I had the infamous "vibe" that was somewhere in the driveline and steering system.  40+ days in the shop and 19 repair attempts.  Ford finally replaced it and I picked up the 05 last week.  I simply love it.

The vibe I had has been beaten to death at www.f150online.com.  The problems I and others had seem to be corrected in the 05s.

Your friend won't go wrong buying one.

I have an '05 f-150 4x2 with 5,000 miles on it that my company got for me to drive.  I love it.  The '05's 150's have the "quiet metal" .  The truck is extremely quiet.  The interior is excellent too.

I have the 4.7 ltr and I am getting 18.2 MPG on the highway.  I have the 6 disc in-dash changer with mp3.  I have about 900 songs total I can listen to.

The only thing I don't like about it is the tilt steering wheel.  It has that difficult to operate lever underneath the column.  That's my only complaint so far except for the radio not being quite what it should be.

My cousin had to go the Super Duty route. His 05, F-150, FX4, with the 5.4, went through two transmissions in about 5 months. Also I've heard the newer 5.4s are having issues with the no. 7 cylinder.

Probably the most overbuilt truck 1/2 ton truck ever made. Just make sure and get the 5.4, the truck is a heavy bitch.
