With old trucks the condition of the particular truck and how well it was maintained will probably be more important from a reliability standpoint than Dodge v. Ford etc I'd try to avoid one that was used a plow truck previously.

The late '70s Ford f-series were great trucks, especially with the 351ci engines and manual trannys. I recently donated my 1977 F-250 to charity and have missed it ever since.

Oh, that is good to know. I have been eyeing trucks with plows because I thought it would be easier than having to buy one to have installed. It seems I can buy a whole truck/plow combo for what it costs me to buy a brand new plow in most cases. Guess I will have to rethink my gameplan. |

Not sure of the layout of your land, but on my friend's farm he has lots of narrow passageways through the trees and a fullsize is TIGHT. He has an old 2-door, 1984 maybe, Nissan Pickup. Works incredibly awesome.
My personal choice would be a 4WD S-10 of the 1986 vintage, maybe 1987 with the 4.3L V6. I had a 1985 version with the 2.8L V6 and it the only thing that made me sell it was the neverending oil leak from the notoriously leaky 2.8L. The 4.3L is a pretty damn solid motor. |

Well at least look over a used a plow truck carefully, I didn't mean to talk you into spending 2x as much for a farm truck. |

My dad has had to deal with his share of plow trucks with corroded brake lines, etc.

I'd look at Kubota tractors. You can get plows, blowers, mowers, trailers or whatever you need and they will last a hell of a lot longer than any pickup used to plow. My cuz up in Wisconsin has a diesel 4wd that is small enough to maneuver easily yet can skid out nice sized logs for firewood or lumber. Awesome machines that hold their value. Just another idea... |

Thanks, but i don't want to spend thousands on a truck. Just something that will carry junk, dirt, garden crap, and plow. It will sit most of the year. I would like to get a kubota, but they are pretty well out of my price range right now. |

What ever you get make it a diesle
if you keep it on the property you can use fuel oil to save on opperating costs that is if you already have a tank on the farm |

Get an old International Harvester. Parts are easy to find and they are cool as hell.
I have a 1968 1100, school bus IH yellow with a 266 V8. |

+1 You can usually pick up a Scout or Terra(pickup version of a Scout) for a couple hundred bucks. Parts are readily available, and they are easy to work on. And they are TOUGH!! |

Well if we're going for cool and unique, my vote is for a Kaiser M715. Or maybe an old deuce and a half.
For a beater farm truck, I'd keep and eye out for a 73-86 Chevy/GMC or late 70s Ford. |

80-86 f150 300 i-6 , manual tranny
300-6 go for 300k if you beat the balls off it , treat her nice and youll see 4-500k Manuals always last longer than Autos Worst case you can do an engine swap in 4 hours ( ask me how i know) Twin i beam is as sturdy as it sounds , cant go wrong <edited for> there are millions of em on the road and the can be found for a song |
