Taking into account:
- Time made (tech must be compaired to time period made) - Is it still being sold and on air - Cultural Impact - Storyline - Acting For me it would be the Wizard of Oz. It showed top tech of the day. It is still sold and aired regularly. People from around the United States all know the movie. It showed a time before American's took everything seriously and America's big Pre-Worldpower time (not that that is a bad thing). It has a great storyline and acting. Then it would be Star Wars next. I am sure I will take that back after I see a movie I like better. |

I know a lot of people claim that "Citizen Kane" is one of the best movies ever, but I have never seen it.
I hoestly think that "Rio Grande" with John Wayne and Maureen O'Hare is up there too. Personally, my two all-time favorite movies are "Blade Runner" and "The Mission" - oh, and ETA "Yojimbo" |
|
The Band of Brothers.
I honestly can't think of anything I'd rather watch over and over than BoB. |
|
I agree, and it's not even a movie. |

The groundbreaking thing about Citizen Kane is its cinematography. Its story isn't that good, which is why most average people dont like it. But the way Welles directed the camera action was very original and artistic. As for me, Raiders of the Lost Ark has and will always be my favorite. I love that movie like few other things. |

.... .... +1 I guess. As for Citizen Kane, I had trouble following the movie because it was so grainy and the audio so poor. Maybe if someone re-released a cleaned up version I could figure out what the heck was going on. But from what I could tell, it was the story about a boy who was adopted by some super rich guy, and he used the money to start a tabloid type newspaper that made him a ton of money. He kind of did it out of spite because he resented having so much money without having earned it. It turned out to be successful though. Then, he was going to marry the niece of the president but he had an affair with some girl who although he liked her singing voice, everyone else thought she sucked. Then he went out and bought an island with a huge ass castle on it called xanadu where he collected statues until he died, his last words of Rosebud being the name of his sled when he was a kid before he was adopted. |

+1 I knew I would miss something. That movie is really, really funny. "There are over 300,000 registered cars in the tri-county area alone" -Ham |

"The Wizard Of Oz" is a good choice. EVERYONE knows it and finds something they like about it. Culturally, it's about the only one that truly crosses and connects all segments of American society across all living generations as well. |
|
That's from Toy Story 2, actually. I think the second one was better anyway. |

For me.... Star Wars, Red Dawn, Boondock Saints.......
just impressive, nice story lines, and they made me feel........ there are many that I consider among the worst though |

It's hard for me to disagree with anyone who nominates Casablanca.
Treasure of the Sierra Madre holds its own as well The Last of the Mohicans. The Godfather. Citizen Kane has always fallen flat with me. Now...for my other nominations which may have made my personal top ten that I doubt many others hold in high regard... ...and you'll think I'm nuts... Risky Business. In my opinion...it is extremely well done. Great acting. Great story for a coming of age film. Given that I grew up in the Chicago metro. area...it kinda hits home as well for me. Now, for my sappy side.... When Harry Met Sally. Go ahead, call me an Artsy Fag, but I really like this movie. Probably the only romance movie that I like other than Casablanca. So there's my scatterbrain commentary. |

He was mocking media baron Randolph Hearst, "Kane" was a thinly-veiled parable of Hearst's life. Why did Welles choose this story? Because Hearst offhandedly insulted him at a restaurant once. "Kane" is the revenge of a massive egotist. |

Best movie of all time taking into account:
- Time made (tech must be compaired to time period made) - Is it still being sold and on air - Cultural Impact - Storyline - Acting Citizen Kane probably comes closer to meeting all your criteria than anything else. Others might include Star Wars, Gone with the Wind, Abel Gance's "Napolean", The Godfather, and Leni Reifenstahl's "Triumph of Will". |
