I am just watching BAT 21 on the History Channel. It looked like Tigers coming in for a ground strike. Were Tigers ever in the AF let alone in Vietnam?

As far as I know, the F-20's were never used as anything other than training pilots to fly against MIG's.
That said, they're probably a cheap fighter without much (if any) sensitive technology which would make them attractive to Hollywood. IIRC, the airstrike in Platoon was done by F-20's and the MIG's in Top Gun were also F-20's. But now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that the bombing run depicted at the end of BAT-21 showed F-105's. |

So is Hackman, but that's another story. I always figured they were F-5s, the whole movie got a lot of shit wrong. Wasn't the guy actually rescued by a SEAL? |

They are F-5s that are used in most of the bombing sequences.
I believe in that war stock footage sequence they are F-100(C?) Super Sabres. This movie doesnt come close to what really happened. They totally ruined the story. |

The movie sucked major dog shit.
Typical Hollyweird fucking re-writing of history. There is a military training video about BAT 21 that was required in Navy SERE school that is much better than this movie. |

I just watched the Black Sheep movie on there too. It was a great movie but not very accurate, which begs the question: Why does Hollywood feel the need to bastardize an already amazing story to make a movie? Wouldn't it still be just as amazing without skewing the facts?

The book was much better and there was a second book which the title of escapes me right now that gives all the good stuff. It was the most expensive rescue mission of the war, both in terms of money spent and lives lost.

During the Vietnam war, there were Northrop F-5A Freedom Fighters
in the USAF and the South Vietnam Air Force. After Saigon fell, guess what happened to those F-5s.
