The last 3 times that I have tried to buy a gun the "instant" background check has taken 3 to 18 hrs while other people have thiers done instantly right beside me. WTF is that all about ?Have I been placed on some type of list ?

Are you putting your social security number on 4473???????????? If not you could be delayed by a name match with a felon.

Well, if I were you, I'd change my last name to something other than "Bin Laden."  It might speed things up.

Does your last name have to be coughed up to pronounce?

GA is a shall issue state.  Go get your CCW permit and then you don't have to do background checks.  Plus you save the $5-15 charge the dealer charges for background checks.  CCW in Georgia is a no brainer.  Just do it!

If I were you, I'd pull my credit reports from all three bureaus immediately...better rule out identity theft...if someone has racked up criminal charges in your name, then you best get it straightened out NOW, before you are stopped for a minor traffic violation, only to find out you have a warrant for armed robbery on your record, courtesy of Mr. ID thief...can't be too careful these days...

Of course, the others might have had CCW permits, so they didn't have to wait.

Is your last name spelled less coherently than a attempting to read from a tumped over bowl of alphabet soup?

You know if your criminal record is clean. I assume it is. Problem could be on the FBI end. Three times in a row however is odd for a problem on their end.

That could be the problem. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Mine is never "instant" but it never takes more than an hour!  I was told that a possible reason was being married/divorced, therefore more than one name associated with the SSN.  Makes sense, but not sure how true it is.

My Georgia CCW is now 3 months in the works, however, without a word...  It would be awfully nice for it to come through before I am gone from here for good!

I read this on another board. SO YOU KNOW HOW IT GOES. DO you work in any sensitive area's like a nuclear power plant control room. or something. After 911 supposedly the FBI keeps track of those people.
