I saw it last night in the DLP (Digital projection) theater in the local googleplex.
It was stunning. It REALLY captured the epic feeling of episodes 4, 5, and 6, that 1 and 2 lacked.
This was also my first experience in a theater watching a digital presentation instead of one on film.
Home theater and display systems are a sideline business of mine, and I've watched DLP projection
since the early days of it, with skepticism as it has been a bright technology but it has had its
faults. However, it continues to get better. The presentation of this movie that I saw last night
was almost flawless. All I can say that wasn't RIGHT about it was how the projector handled
very dark scenes. Black never fades to real black, but is a dark grey instead. This is what
I expected, and is distracting to me, but in all other respects, I was very impressed.
Great finish to a great story line, great presentation. And Lucas and co. did a fantastic job
of migrating the look and feel of the movie toward the look and feel of Episode 4. Many
loose ends were perfectly connected and the continuity from ep. 3 to ep. is almost flawless.
(Tiny spoiler here...Leia claimed (in ROTJ, ep. 6) that she could remember her mother a little.
There ain't no way that happened, boss!)
However, they should have handed out either earplugs at the box office or hearing aids when
you left the theater. It was REALLY FREAKING LOUD.
