my daughter has a school project where she has to research battlefields [civil war] that are endanger of being developed and write why she thinks they should be developed or should ot be.  Do any of you know of any battlefields that are being threatened?  We've googled but didn't come up with anything.

Yes they are trying to build a Gambling Casino complete with all the attendant Flashing lights and Neon right beside the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitors areas owned by the NPS. And this after the years of fighting the preservationist spent to get that Damn ugly eyesore of Tourist trap Observation tower torn down

Gettysburgh.

I have a friend that owns a small farm on the outskits (it was a field hospital after the battle).  Always talking about the developers trying to come in.  The residence up there have an organization that tries to buy land that comes up for sale to keep it off the market and not available for developing.

Manassas for sure.

It's immediately adjacent to an interstate highway in one of the fastest-growing parts of the country.

Check any battlefields in western Maryland. The price of real estate has people looking for cash in all the wrong places. The gov. of Maryland is already selling state park lands and probably looking to dive into the land trusts sold to the state by old farmers.

It sucks because once they open this box you can never close it.

My wife and I have enjoyed annual trips to Gettysburg for the last 5 years or so, and this year we're bringing our baby girl along for her first trip. It's something we look forward to all year long. There's just something about that town that we love - it's more than the history, it's the serenity or something. We'll be there this July.

A casino in the vicinity would ruin a beautiful place we love.

One most people have never heard of:  The Battle of Buffington Island,  Meigs Co OH.

In 1863  Morgan's Raiders were moving thru what was then Virginia,  crossed into Ohio in Meigs Co.  This was the one of (if not the only) Civil War battles fought in Ohio.

A gravel company has been trying to get a permit to start a quarry on the site.

eta:  when in Gettysburg take a drive to Cashtown for lunch/dinner at the Cashtown Inn.  You may want to call ahead for reservations.  Also,  the Four Seasons in Fairfield usually has good food.

There is a big Nat. Geographic article this month or last about this. They try to act like every place a soldier stopped to take a crap should be enshrined.
Most of the article is about Virginia, Which is turning into bedroom communities for D.C.
I'm sure that is were your teacher got the idea, and if you spout a bunch of garbage about unrban sprawl you'll get an A.
