If you were one of the survivors stuck on the island in the show " Lost "  and you had to choose one
handgun and one long arm with 200 rounds for each , what would you choose ?
I was thinking   S&W 500  and a  Barrett .50 cal . Bolt action.

Saiga AK in .308.

Just due to operating environment. I'm more of an M1a guy.

M1A Scout and some 10mm pistol. Preferrably a Delta Elite or other 1911, but I'd *GASP* settle for a Glock 20.

My S&W 620 in .357 and a Marlin carbine in .357.  Simple and hard to break, and if one does, the ammo works for both.  O'Tool Principle.

Plenty O'Tool?

.45-70 Government.

.357 revolver or 10mm pistole

Depending on how big those monsters are, either a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70 or an AK-103 with a titanium nitride finish.

For a handgun, I'll take a Medusa Model 47. Then I can use my .357 Magnum ammo or the 9mm ammo from all those handguns that marshal had.

No.  The O'Tool Principle.  Its a corallary to Murphy's law.  Murphy's law states that whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.  O'Tool states that Murphy was an optimist.

Point is that if I was that far removed from a good gunsmith and/or spare parts, I want something as simple and rugged as possible.  Hard to break a good revolver or a lever action, and if one does, then you can use the pistol ammo for your rifle and vice versa.

Since it's round limited, Para FAL and a good 10mm pistol.

If it was based on a certain weight of ammo I could carry, then the answers would likely be different.

Why are we allowed only 200 rounds?

Marlin Guide gun in .45-70.
.357 Magnum revolver.

Depends on what kind of creatures we are talking about.
If they are 'raptor-fast and smallish, then an M249 would be my first choice.
2000 rounds would be more like it.

Since I am impatient, I'll ruin it for ya right now?

I'd either take a 10/22 and a .38

Or...

The gun that Al Pacino used in Heat.

Yay, my first Arfcom cliche!

Fellows, ya need to practical on this here island.  I-Land.  Get the remmington pump action 12 gauge.

Grab a box of slugs,  a Box of 00 Buck shot and don't worry bout no fricken polar bear - or anything else for that matter.

A fricken street sweeper with a message to deliever.... baby, would NOT want to be on the receiving end of that.    Also, 100 yard shot with a slug - yep, that'll kill pretty good.  It if gets any closer I figure two or three double oughts will either tear its head off or quickly bleed it to death - real fricken fast.

Ya'll keep that m-4.... FINE RIFLE.  but for Island work against polar bears and unknown natives, I'll perfer that pump gun.

:)   Piston - nope.  Give me the PUMP -  make sure ya KILL IT REAL DEAD.

Finally some sense on this thread!
To compliment the 12guage, I'd take that AR lower, but with a .50 Beowulf upper.

I'm sorry but anybody saying m4 or anything in an intermediate cartridge hasn't been paying attention to the show. You got your big ole polar bears and the 'guardian', which sounds like it's really big, really heavy, and like it has a bunch of metal on it. You want something that you can use to punch through from a good distance away.

.223 isn't enough. 12guage doesn't have the range you want. 50bmg may be nice, but the gun is too heavy to lug through the jungle and your magazine capacity is limited. So it really calls for something reliable in either .308 or 30-06. Either a fal (para for me), a saiga with a pistol grip & folder, garand, m1a, etc. 20 round detachable magazines with a total of 200 rounds = 10 mags. 1 in the gun, carrying 9 in a vest / pouch. Simple, powerful, reliable, carry all your ammo with you and qucik mag changes / follow ups.

But if you had the .50bmg, you're probably going to be able to get the hatch open
