Isn't that some nice fucking bullshit? I've been hit for it a few times here in WA state ($101 fine), but refuse to pay. They have NO right to tell me I must wear my seatbelt.

Click it or ticket, BUT they are thinking about repealing the helmet law in Michigan. Whats screwed up about that? ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!! I swear to all that is almighty I am going to make a tee shirt with a damn pic of a seatbelt on it. Words to say damn right I'm wearing. Nannystate.

I love my Escort. It's a 91 model. The shoulder belt is automatic. I still wear the lap belt all the time, but it's nice to know that if I'm really off and totally space on it, I still have some protection.
Actually, I don't think I've ever been so far off as to not put my seatbelt on. On the rare occasion I don't wear the lapbelt (from the mailbox to my parking space, all on private property at ~10mph) it feels really weird to not have it. Guess I'm just used to it. It's a sad state in our country that the government feels it necessary to legislate what I would have thought to be common sense. I'm not sure if that says more about the .gov or about the people out there, but it's sad either way. |

anyone have a new shitty vehicle that starts beeping if you dont have your seatbelt on? mine does for both the passenger and drivers side.

That's old news around here, that phrase is many years old.
Took it awhile to make it from the East Coast to the West Coast. Now it's Natiowide! It came on like thunder and dissipated quickly. If you have more folks than you have seat belts inside a cab, sweat a little. Time to get those belts out from behind the seat! Especially the middle pickup seats. Danny

Here in Pennsylvania it's no longer mandatory to wear a helmet while riding a motorcycle,
but you must wear a seat belt when driving your car!   |

Radio ads in the Il-MO area this week are stating that "60% of people who dies in traffic accidents were not wearing their seat belts."
Umm, might just be my contrarian nature, but, ergo, does this not also mean that 40% WERE wearing their seatbelts? Fat lot of good it did them. It's about safety, not revenue. Yeah, whatever. |

Presumably an occupant trapped within the confinements of his overturned truck due to a safety belt. Looks like alot of mud and debris, as if he went into a body of water. Don't really know and a bit hard to decipher. Either way, he's well restrained by his restraining belt. Edited to say occupant as opposed to driver. |

I was talking with my brother (a cop) just last weekend about this Nazi assed law. He told me that departments that sign on with the Click it program can actually win overtime grant money based on how many tickets they write.
It is bad enough that the Goddamn feds threaten to withold money from the states in order to get these laws passed. It is worse yet that the cocksuckers actually passed the laws. But now the police departments are getting rewarded based on officers writing chicken shit seat belt tickets. Horseshit. Pure horseshit. Obey your Uncle Gov, he knows what's best for you. Seat belt laws suck. |

I'm not sure if it's still true, but I know a few years ago, school buses didn't even have seat belts. I asked a cop I know why and he said that if there was an accident, they want to get the kids out quickly and the seat belts would slow things down.
He couldn't explain why they wouldn't want to get the kids out quickly if the accident was in another vehicle and not in the bus. Truth of the matter is it's about revenue, plain and simple. Most new laws are. |

in the past 13 years,that I have been on the force, about 8 of those were seatbelt law years. I have written exactly 0, ZERO, seatbelts citations. I truly believe it should be up to the driver to decide if he/she wishes to wear one.
seatbelts do save lives, but so do helmets for cycles.... and untill we have a state helmet law, i'm not writing any seatbelt cite's.... I wear mine 99% of the time, and wear helmet all the time. but that's MY choise... Nobody has ever told me to write more seatbelt cites, the cheif doesn't even write many seatbelt cites. around here, fine is $70 or so for seatbelt violation. or I should say,,, State sets the fine at $50, but county has a "law library" fee, court fee, and something else i can't thinkof right now.. all ads up. I make them put it on after i'm finnished with the stop. and cite them for the offence I stopped them for. off soapbox.... |

Paul, if you read what I wrote you will see that I always where my seat belt. So this is not about safety. Rather it is about how years ago when they FIRST started this program they said it would be a secondary ticket only with a fine of $35. Now it is a primary ticket and the fine is $300. Meanwhile other states that are also required to have this new "safety" law are repealing the helmet "safety" law So tell me...do you REALLY think this is about safety or incrimentalism? Sgat1r5 |

In my 1983 Mustang, I had sports bucket seats installed and I had a set of H-harness racing restraints installed for the front seats. From the rear, you couldn't tell there were shoulder belts until you walked up. I got pulled over all the time for things like, burned out lights that somehow started working again after I was pulled over - then got a seat belt ticket - that got tossed at court after I produced pictures showing the restraints and the view from the side and rear. I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign (I never roll through stop signs) and got a ticket for belts, the old "you car matches the description of...." and the belt ticket yet again - even though I was wearing them when the idiot walked up, as I always was wearing them. Hell, I had my crash helmet in the back seat usually.
Yeah, they needed a "probable cause" issue to stop you but it only took as long as the resourceful officer could make it up. It's all about revenue and if I want to launch myself through the windshield face first, I should be able to. I have always worn my belt since I used to legally drag race on a strip. Makes it easier for the EMT's to find the bodies. They get pissed when they need to stop and search for you..... |

Several months ago I drove through a street next to a school at 3:26 pm. The street has a sign up that says "one way between 7- 7:30 am and 3-3:30 pm" It's 3:26 , not a kid or bus or shit in sight but as I crest a hill there are 3 of the cities finest directing people to pull over if they aren't wearing a seat belt. They wrote me a bloody seatbelt ticket and had the nerve to try and make small talk while ripping me off. Later a sane person on the force told me about the grant money and the overtime the dipsh*#s were making to hijack people in the school zone, and they don't even set up until the busses and everyone clears out so they don't disrupt things. |

In MT it is a $20 ticket. It is a national program and cops are strongly encouraged to write tickets for seatbelts during this time. I can tell you that fine is far too low, it has little impact on if someone will use their belt or not.
Also, seatbelt violation is not a primary offense. Officers must have something else to pull someone over for it (out tail light, speeding, careless driving, etc). It also isn't new, it has been around as long as I can remember. |

Appears like a door was not locked and the door popped open, driver partially fell out, and the door slammed shut. Seatbelts aren't worth shit if you can't stay inside the cab, hey I remember something from drivers ed 10 yrs ago

I don't write any seatbelt tickets nor do I pull people over for it because it is UNCONSTIUTIONAL. And I tell my chief that also. |
