Title says it all, who makes this conversion? Exact rifle in question is a Remington 700 VS in 308.

The ROBAR companies.
I'll try to find an address.

I think ROBAR does the mag converison.  I remember seeing a picture of their QFR rifle.  It is a folding bolt action that take mags.  Try to drop by their website for info.

well when someone finds out how much this conversion cost (the web site says that they will do it on already completed rifles, but only in house) please post it for all of us to see.

if they will do this on a 700 for a decent price, that might give the edge to the rem 260 over the winchester 70 in 6.5x55mm that i've been thinking about putting together.  sloth

Thanks for the info, gents. I shoot off a bi-pod, so i'm not to worried about the mag getting in my way.

If anyone out there has a pic of a converted 700 please post it. Thanks!

This was brought up in the magazine forum a while back.  I don't know who does this conversion, but I do know that HS Precision makes a 10 round detachable box magazine system for the 700.  It is pricey....$100 for each 10 round mag and $185 for the assembly which comes with a 4(or 5 can't remember) round mag.  Stuff is good quality and seems to work good.

I believe Mo's Shooter's Supply in CT also does the work.

I posted a topic similar to this a while back in Equipment(rifles / uppers lowers) Its on page 7 : 700/70 converted to ar mags. Should answer your questions.

As posted by QuarterBore relating to a        Mo Defina converson.

I just got off the phone with Mo's and they still do these conversions on the Remington 700!!! They do an M-16 mag conversion and a M-14 mag conversion. The price is $595 and the process includes to cost of modifying one magazine.

He said that the process sometimes requires modifying the feed lips but sometimes the mags do not require any changes. He also said that many guys will ship 5 or so mags with the gun for fitting at the time it is made. As far as mags go, he strongly recomends USGI mags and plastic mags are a real pain to get to work.

Turn-around for these conversions is supposed to be 4-6 weeks. The really cool parts seems to be that with the M-16 conversion they put a button on the side of the stock that releases the mag just like our little black rifles!

Hope this helps!
