I went to the Elmira NY Wings of Eagles Airshow last weekend. While I was there I was able to get a photo of the crew of the Memphis Belle crew autographed by the Captain (pilot) of the craft! I also got two other articles in the magazine "Ghost Wings" autographed by two other B17 pilots as well as getting pictures with them. I was also able to meet 4 of the Tuskegee Airman and was able to get my picture with 2 of them. All of these were great guys and should be the REAL role models for American children. It was a great show, 85 degrees, virtually no clouds, lots of great planes and super people.

Been to this show many many times, when it was in geneseo.....haven`t gone to elmira yet. it has always been a GREAT show, and they always had something "special" for the fans. such as stealth flyovers, when 117`s were new, jump jet demos, a10 attack team demo`s, the last time i went, they had ALL the ww2 stuff there do a flyover. that consisted of about a dozen 17`s, about 30 warplanes, 1 lancaster (only 2 flying at that time) and about 50 or so trainers....well over 100 planes in all, do give people some idea of what the raids were like. went in the domicile b17, just days before it left for elmira. thats the last time i was there. as i said, great show. it got so big, i think they outgrew geneseo.......[smoke]............................p-51`s..always my favorite...love those rr/merlins on low level flyovers...especially in pairs!!!!!

For those not familar with the Tuskegee Airman, they were all Black pilots that were segregated. Their P51s had a red stripe on the rudder as their distinguishing mark. THey were know by the Germans as the "Red Tailed Terrors" or "Red Finned Devils". Although many died in fighter combat between the Luftwaffe, a B-17 NEVER fell to enemy aircraft when they were escorted by them, a record than is not shared with any other fighter group. True American Heroes. If only the black youth of today looked up to them instead of snoop doggy dog or tupac, hell, white kids too for that matter America would be a much better place.
