Yeah, ever since I was a kid with Speed Racer and way back with Kimba.  Went through the Robotech phase as well.  Currently my kids are now big fans, so I get to watch the new stuff as well.  Some of the ones that rank up there with me are "Ghost in the Shell", "Gunsmith Cats" (I bought a CZ-75 because of Raly Vincent), and a few others.  I like the involved story lines Animee has.  For current TV, Tenchi is about the best in my book.  My daughter is a total freak for Gundam Wing, though I'm not too much of a fan.

I like most of it, but not that pokemon crap
Robotech is good, although I've heard the original 3 series it was taken from are better (Macross, *something* Cavalry Southern Cross, Genesis Climber Mosepa). Cowboy Bebop is good, I liked Gunsmith Cats too, lots of guns in it :)

This is from little T-Rex
I think there are three types of anime and I like titles from all three groups.
Worst: Pokemon
Medium: DB/Z/GT(DB=Dragonball), Fatal Fury, etc.
Best: Most anything from Urban Vision(Vampire Hunter D, Biohunter, Twilight of the Dark Master)
I was wondering if anyone is a hentai freak?
If you are then you are sick and perverted and alright in my book! >:)

I'm a big fan. And have been since Speed Racer and Kimba.

TV - Robotech = 3 separate series combined for US tele, Guyver, G-force without the tv edits, Gunsmith Cats - it looks really bubblegum until the girls start blowing people away, The Gundam series,

Movies PG13-R+ rated - Akira, Ghost in the shell, Macross Plus, Ninja Scroll, Golgo13, Goku Midnight Eye, Wicked City, Armatige 3,

Old stuff but still cool - Speed Racer - I've been heard of some unedited stuff thats very different than the Saturday morning crap I remember, Vampire Hunter D - a must see since they are remaking D, and the new stuff looks amazing, GedaRobo, Fist of the Northstar etc.

The first of the Robotech DVD set was released last week. The 3 disk set contains the first 12 episodes and some bonus stuff. Just got mine this weekend. Good stuff.

The annoying part about Japaneese animation is that when a character is running or walking, it seems as if the people who are doing the animation keep using the same frames.  AND THOSE ANNOYING BIG SPARKLY EYES!!!

Oh, and Ranma 1/2, anyone else like Ranma 1/2?

I am not a big fan - I have a couple DVDs, but that's about it. Hentai is often pathetic, but I agree that some of it is as funny as hell (if you have seen what the average Asian porn film is like, you may prefer to watch Hentai [:)]

Apparantly, one of the creators of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within got his idea of the "phantasms" in the movie from Ghost in the Shell...anywhere you can catch that series here in the states?

Oh, and for MY favorite Anime show?

Used to be, not anymore. I liked the Mech related anime's. Personally I think the art work is down in quality the last few years. I stopped renting/collecting anime videos because 1: not to much good mech stuff anymore 2:Art quality seems to be down 3: Got tired of all the socialist and NWO themes in all thier shows.

I refused to rent Gunsmith Cats because I read it had major anti gun sentiments (as in only the police/state should have guns). Got tired of the hypocrisy, you know shit blowing up, fighting, then a message of antiviolence, etc.

I do have all the original Robotech videos (as they aired originally here in the states).

I like to consider myself a big fan of anime.

My Favorite Japanimations:
Robotech
Macross Plus
Gatchamen (Japanese version of G-Force, recently released)
Ninja Scroll
Akira
Wings of Honneamise

Contrary to their popularity, I didn't like either Ghost in the Shell or Pricess Mononoke.  Don't get me wrong, I thought both were excellent animations, but I have seen it before in other Anime. I fell asleep during Ghost in the Shell when it was shown at a local University.  It was like a Kubrick film; long and drawn out.

Anyway, I hope that helps.

I'm still waiting for a response from the great one named, akira being that he works in Japanimation.  I believe he said he is now self-employed because he was tired of his old boss and wanted a business of his own.  Sure would like to hear some of his vast knowledge and opinions about this great art form.

I've just started taking an interest only recently and been trying to learn more.  My interests is more in the form of characters that have a realistic appearance like the characters on the cover of Final Fantasy VII. Although, I do like the japanimation characters with the large eyes.

Mr.akira are you there?  Hello?  Sir?   [:)]

Who told you that?  They spend most of the series complaining about the "Dirtbag ATF agent."

I really got interested in Anime' after Harmony Gold released Robotech. I was hooked on that series. There is a lot of good stuff out there. If you are a high-tech/mecha fan check out Gundam 0083. In my opinion, this is the best mecha title out there, although the Patlabor series and Macross Plus are excellent also. Battle angel is magnificently animated and the storyline is quite good also. For anyone who ever liked AD&D or just anything medieval, you really should watch Record of the Lodoss War. Macross II started out pretty good, but the last tape was awful, ruined the entire series IMHO. Ninja Scroll is another excellent title. Princess Mononoke is also very worth seeing, if only for the incredible job they did with the animation, but I thought it had a very good story to it also. Another of my favorites that is usually overlooked is Black Magic M-66. It is a sort of a variation of the Terminator theme and is also very well done. A little short though. The old Bubblegum Crises series was pretty good too, but the story line is somewhat broken due to production problems. From what I have seen, Evangelion (sp?) also looked pretty good, although I have only seen the first couple of eps. Gundam Wing was pretty good, but picked up considerably in the second half of the series. The last 10 episodes or so were very well done (too much suicide talk in the first half). Gundam: The 8th MS team is suppose to be coming out soon and I have heard many good things about this series also. Gundam F91 has excellent action scenes, but I have never  been able to fine even a fansubbed copy. All original dialogue in this one.

There is a lot more I haven't mentioned or forgotten, but you get the idea...

Aw yeah. Let's see....

Cowboy Bebop
Trigun (strong pro-gun scenes in this one occasionally)
Robotech
Appleseed (Masamune Shirow rocks)

How about...Battle of the Planets?

I almost forgot. For the Macross/Robotech fans out there, check out the Macross: Do You Remember Love movie. It has a plot that is twisted from the series, but the animation is excellent, espicially during on scene where three fighters are skimming just over the ocean and the jetwash is creating a wake behind them. Very impressive...

See I knew I wasn't the only one who liked Robotech. I started to buy the episodes from Suncoast Motion Pictures...too expensive. My wife said I was a big kid.

A HOVERTANK!!!

I thought they were cool- just about the only cool mech in Southern Cross (the mecha were not that middle sections strong point).

I always thought Dana Stirling was a cool character.  She was my favorite Robotech character...

4. Trigun
5. Magic Knights Rayearth
6. Slayers
7. Bubblegum Crisis
8. Pokemon
9. Hyper Police
10. Grave of the Fireflies

Gunsmith Cats is not anti gun.  ATF agents are not portrayed very well, and neither were people in favor of gun control.  I recommend it for anyone who likes guns =)

Actually, the only anime I've seen that I can think of with an antiviolence message has been the first pokemon movie (only the dub, I read the Japanese script and it really wasn't that bad..) and Princess Mononoke.  I think American cartoons are worse about that than the Japanese, which is interesting.
Anyway!

That is the biggest reason why I like Anime.  When they use violence, they dont sugar coat it.  People get hurt, they bleed.  Also, and I really liked this when I was little, they showed kids and young adults not only being threatened by violence, but also retaliating successfully, and contributing meaningfully to the resolution of the plot.

So its no wonder that most anime has to be heavily censored before being shown on US TV.

Two examples, one is a episode of Ruroni Kenshin, some of you guys will remember it, the one where Yahiko gets his first crush on a new serving girl working at the teahouse.  Except she is being run by some Yakuza who use her to infiltrate places they are going to rob.  Yahiko finds out and tries to rescue her himself, gets the shit kicked out of him by three adult men (Yahiko is about 12 or 13 remember).  But later, he tries again, this time on advice from Kenshin, he hits and runs and gets the thugs to follow him into a narrow alley where they have to fight him one at a time.  Some carefully targeted blows from his shinai(groin, eye, throat) put each one down in turn- but not perminently.  One draws a katana and comes after Yahiko, cutting up his bamboo sword, Yahiko has to dive to avoid his blows and gets pinned on the ground- right next ot a thugs dicarded oak bokken.  With that he parries the killing blow and quite quickly drops the thug with blows to the head and neck.  When its over he finds that Kenshin and the rest of the cast have been watching him, but Kenshin didnt let them intervene so Yahiko could learn what a real fight was like.  Now could you imagine a American animator ever showing a boy being beat down by three adult men?  Much less that same boy coming back later and returning the favor!! Heaven forbid showing a mere child succesfully using violence to defeat a threatening adult!

The other example is in ep8 of the series "Hime-chan no Ribbon" which is a "magical girl" series actually aimed at grade-school age girls.  The little brother of the the main male character, Dachi, is kidnapped from a park right in front of Dachi and Hime-chan.  They chace the kidnapper who gets away in a car, they run out in the street and flag down a delivery truck.  The truck driver picks them up and follows the kidnapper who takes them out of town and to a cabin in the woods. There they confront the kidnapper, who it turns out is armed with a Tokarev (nice rendering of the gun I may add).  Dachi and Hime-chan successfully disarm the man and Dachi grabs his gun but are thwarted by him pulling a second Tokarev from behind his back.

In that sequence alone, look at the number of non PC actions that took place.  The kidnapping would be condemned as "too scary", the kids chasing after the kidnapper would be condemned as "irresponsible", and well you can imagine what they would say about Dachi turning the kidnappers Tokarev on him.  A thirteen year old boy with a gun! Horror!
