I was talking with some guys in chat and they found it odd that I name my guns.  What do you guys think?

Betty is my Remington 870
Jessica is my AR-15
Michelle is my USP
Lisa is my 1911
Bonnie is my Winchester 94
Lola is my S&W 686
I have not yet named my chinese SKS.

How is it weird?  I thought naming guns was normal...

[#6]
nope, but i do refer to my polish m-44 as my boomstick
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 2:01:41 AM EDT
[#7]
Nope, just by their brand names.

Some men name their guns after women.
There are some advantages to that.  For instance if someone hears "I'm taking Betty to the range," it's better than, "I'm taking my AR-15 to the range."  It's also fun when you go hunting, for instance, "Me and Betty took down a nice grizly bear."

The disadvantages are that some people thing that you are a little crazy and looking for a girlfriend.

I plan on naming my guns and duct taping the name over the sereal numbers just for fun.

I name my firearms.

My gun however remains unnamed, but it's legend has been heard about in 10 states.

I don't name my guns.  I don't name my car, I don't name my tools, I don't name my electronic appliances either.  All of them have names (or at least alphanumeric designations).

Naming guns is a little odd.

Only named one my Bennelli Super 90 M1, call it the BMF!

Mine are named Colt and Bushy.

I'm not very creative.

I named my M4 Betsy.  No other firearms have names though.

Nope, I just call them what they are.

I call my AR my .22. As in "just taking my .22 to the range today"  OR Q: "What's in the bag?"  A: "Just my .22"

No.  Naming inanimate objects has always kind of been strange to me.  I don't call my computer "Franklin," I call it a computer.  Same with my rifles.  Hey guys!  Check out this new website I found on my Franklin!

All of mine are named "Happy MacDeathkiller."

My pistol is named "Easy Jesus."

[#22]
Sort of.  I reload and keep records the accuracy of my loads in different guns. Rather than record 'Sporterized Mauser in 257 Roberts' use 'Bob' and instead of 'Bushmaster with 16" varmint upper' I use 'ARmint'.  But I don't go around saying 'this is Bob he is my rifle there are many like him but this one is mine'.

I never have named any of my guns, just my hats.  If I ever get a tank, I want to name it "Fluffy".

You have a web browser running on your Franklin?  Wow.  I'm impressed that it even has networking!

Only if I get one that is unreliable.

I name it piece of sh*t,  and get rid of it!

[#26]
Yep. All but one is named after girls I once knew.

AR-180B is Erin. Irish related rifle, and the cute redheaded Irish girl actually requested it. A couple months later she joined the USAF, stopped talking to me, and vanished.
Winchester Model 70 is Kimberly.
Browning 12 is Leah.

My Beretta 92FS is referred to as "The Morrigan". Bonus points to those who get that.

The Remington pump action .22LR I have at home is called Melanie. It looked fun at first, but turned out to be an unreliable, miserable bitch.

Not usually but I have an older Scattergun Technologies K9 1187. It's black, has a side saddle and a surefire light. It's really sinister looking, I named it darth

In OSUT at Benning we had to name our rifles. I named mine Stormbringer. I think everyone else named theirs after women, except a kid from CA who named his "my little friend". As in "I want you to meet my little friend".

The AR hasn't been named yet, I don't think it will be.
My P2K is "Mjolnir"
The P99 is the "Punkbuster"

When I got my first AR-a Colt-the GF and I were calling it BAG. For Bad Assed Gun.

I don't call it that any longer. It's The Colt.

Now, my neighbor with the FN 5-7 calls his "Icepick".

He calls his Ruger P89 (?) "Ole Blocky" and his 45/22 "Difficult POS" (pertaining to cleaning)

I name mine after girls I have previously known and been fond of. My Bushmaster's name is Jordan. The FAL I recently sold was named Charlotte. My next rifles or pistols will be named Tiffany, Laura, and Katie. I know that it's weird.
