Does anyone know what the standard threads (for flash suppressors) are on the barrels?

Yes, I am actually looking for the actual thread patterns for both rifles.  1/2-xx or whatever the actual threads might be.

I believe the AR15 thread is a 1/2" x 28G

Don´t know about the M1A

The reason I'm asking is that I am thinking about having my Rem 700 VS (.223) threaded for a flash suppressor and am going back and forth between the M1A and AR-15 flash suppressors.  Any thoughts???

While we are on the subject, is it legal for me to attach a flash suppressor to my rem 700 varmit rifle?

The flash hider on an M14 is splined. This wouldn't be the hot setup on a heavy varmint BBL.(ie-threaded and splined) Also USGI M14 FH's sell for $100.00. If you want the look use a L1A1 FH. They are 9/16-24RH and cost about $10.00. Also check out Brownell's selection of muzzle brakes for varmint BBL's.
