what happened to being able to talk about ANYTHING in the general discussion forums? I thought that was what it is for! Yet, when someone starts a thread not related to guns, someone else comes along and decides they dont like it and starts bitching about how it has no place on an AR15 board and that they are tired of reading trash. If you dont want to read it, THEN DONT!! If we were talking about the advantages of video cards using AGP over PCI in the ammo & reloading forum, I could understand. But this is supposed to be GENERAL DISCUSSION!! General means anything, or maybe it should be changed to Limited and Restricted Discussion. This is the only board I come to because I can usually find a lot of funny and interesting shit to read, but too many guys are becoming whiney bitches. Maybe the antis are right, maybe some guys buy guns to make up for a lack of sac. Oh wait, I dont think this topic is right for an AR15 board . . .

Well lets see. So far this week we've had bash the LEO threads, bash fat women threads, bash each other threads and now the "what does and doesn't belong on general discussion" thread has reared it's ugly head.
General discussion is the place to express your ideas and opinions of subjects that don't fit or relate to the other forums. As long as they follow the conduct code and user policy..rock on. Opinions are like Camaros...everybody has one.[:)] |
|
Read the "Forums Conduct Code." ANYTHING, and I do mean ANYTHING, that falls within those guidelines is welcome. Otherwise, there is a more suitable place for discussing it elsewhere.
If that fails to clarify things for ya, e-mail me and we can talk. |

Seeing the diverse topics including recent news items, crazy sex stories, bashings, praisings, NRA stuff, and typical gun chatter, I feel pretty safe in saying that just about anything can be discussed.
The problem with threads is that most of the time they dwindle down or turn into pissing contests. When that happens, they are done. If the conversation is still hot, then someone should start a new thread back up. Otherwise let the arguments die with the thread. -- GB |

this is simply the type of perversion that God MUST punish if he is to be justified in destroying Sodom and Gohmorrah... STEYRAUG - THANKS FOR BRINGING THE HEDO TRASH INTO THIS SITE. THANKS A-FUCKING-LOT... But this is sick. Sorry, but this is bullshit. we are about guns - NOT about are petty little sexaul escapades. Take that over to www.sexuallyobsessed.com. View Quote It is obvious that this topic bothered garandman on a personal level. It was an interesting topic, though. That is why I come here. Interesting GD topics. I'm probably your average visitor too: a white 25 year old male. If he closed it because it was long, whatever. But I have seen longer topics that had no substance whatsoever. But to attack and condemn SteyrAUG because he posted about something that he didn't agree with on a religious basis (that I personally found interesting), and then lock the thread is ridiculous. |

But you make it look like that was THE SOLE reason I locked the thread. What does that make you??? |

Garandman,
I too was shocked to read your rant over the Hedo thing. I agree with you most of the time (I really don't consider myself a Christian, just a fairly moral man), but the cloak of Christianity I would think cannot be so easily "set aside" if one is sincere in their beliefs. Using the f-word (not "Frank", the other one) was appalling, IMO. I really think you lost a lot of credibility as a moderator, and especially as a follower of Christ. It is just my opinion, and worth what you pay for it, but your words were shameful. I bet your words will be repeated back to you in a quote every time you try to "preach", just like they were here. [:(] |
|
In defense of garandman and also as one of the "contestants" that was escalating this Hedo issue way beyond where it belonged, I think that he did the right thing. I believe that everyone was stepping "out of bounds" and I , personally sent him an apology for my part in making a mockery of an otherwise, somewhat harmless posting, that I now believe SteyrAug did with good intentions.

This was just what he said a "pissing" contest and served only to spur others on to do better. I am glad that it ended and even sorry that I was a part of it. I have offered my aplogies to all and hope that in the future, I choose my words alittle more carefully. |

I take the "take what you need and leave the rest" approach to most topics. Sometimes I get into the brawl if it's something I feel strongly about. But I don't think I would ever ask that a topic be locked, no matter how crazy it gets.
I figure that if a persons argument is weak, or even outright ridiculous, they'll do a very efficient job of hanging themselves, and turning readers against them. I think this theory applies to myself as well. I don't think I'm completely above being an a$$hole sometimes. [:)] If I'm being flamed for something I post, and I can't take the heat (which is never, heat doesn't bother me enough [:D])I'll get out of the kitchen. I don't need a moderator to lock the thread to save me. I believe that the only topics that should get locked in the GD forum are those that could potentially cause legal problems, such as death threats, pornography*, illegal acts, etc. *Edited to include: Yeah, I said pornography. I know I posted some pics that were borderline pornographic a while back, but I was properly chastised, and I have repented. [:)] |

I direct your attention to the following section which was authored by....garandman! Rule # 4 - No pissing matches. Its fine to disagree, but once a thread has run its course, and degenerated into little more than an insult fest, it will be locked. While this WILL require a judgment call by the Mods, the board members can keep our moderating to a minimum by exercising a little discretion and self- control. View Quote Based on your rants in the "HedoIII" thread, I'm gonna have to call you on this one. If you're gonna lay down the law, then live by it. If not, then shut up. |

No pissing matches?
That reminds when I was in third grade. We had contests to see who could piss the farthest in the boys room. This one kid, Allen Riggens, would always pop a boner and give him the extra inch to win the contest. One day, Allen is pissing away and slowly backing away from the urinal to see how far away he could get. We were all cheering him on when all of a sudden the Teacher walks in... We went to a Catholic school and the teacher was the head nun. Poor Allen has his schwanz in his hand and now pee is dribbling down his leg while the nun silently stares at him. After what seemed an eternity, she just turned around and walked out. Poor kid never did live it down. |

I think everyone is reading too much into the reason why the post was locked.
Garandman obviously read enough of it to know what was going on, it's been up there for how long now? how many comments did he put forth? How many times did he comment he did not agree with it? how many threats to lock it if pictures or discussions were not curbed??? Exactly! That thread had turned ugly for a while (since page 2!!!) and in my stupidity (ok, I've been a grumpy bastard lately) I ignored closing it and in fact joined it! I felt that defending someone who was in the right was more important at that time than closing it to avoid arguing. The point of this, is that I got involved and then did not want to act on it. Garandman was big enough to realize this should have been closed, went against his beliefs, and still fought with himself over closing it. (Thus why it was not locked right away, or even right after his first post!) This morning I finally came to my senses and as I was about to lock it, it had already been locked. (And 100% in the right!) His religious views may not be agreed upon by many, myself included, but he doesn't push it down anyones throat, and he does not overstep the rules. (So far anyhow!!! [=)]) I'm pretty sure he decided not to close it, then re-read the last few pages and realized he had to close it for other reasons than his own beliefs. So back off and leave the AR15.Com Crusader alone!!! As for defending you on the other board, I stated my opinions clearly here. I didn't wish to post it on the other forum because I did not want to start a cross site pissing contest with people who are so obviously hypocrites!!! Everyone go play nice now, you're bothering me!!! [=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)][=)] -- GB |

Yeah, garandman can sometimes be a pretty cool cat in my book. In my neighborhood, we all carry the garandman trading card from the Christian Hero trading card series in our back pockets. Sometimes we even argue on who can play garandman in our role-playing games. One kid even has a poster of garandman in his room!
Besides, garandman is our resident bible-thumbing, champion Kung-Fu fighter on this site. And he is a survivor of many Internet "barroom brawls" here in the forums. Man, that cat also has beliefs as fast as lightening and words as sharp as throwing stars! But I was a little shocked that he lost it on the Hedo thread by using a word I "thought" was not in his vocabulary. GoatBoy, you must of picked garandman for a mod for a good reason. Oh well, I guess we won't trade garandman's trading card for an old Babe Ruth card that another kid wanted for his. [:)] -RoadDog |

I've received Jesus as my Savior, but I'm far from being what I ought. Days like today simply serve to remind me of that, and knock me down a peg or two. |

Steyer...Great pics page one...after that I was done..it went 5 pages? WOW! GB..maybe a NC17 section...like dumping brass over at fnfal.com? somewhere unmoderated where 'dirty pictures' and pissing matches are the norm? maybe not, MIGHT bring this forum down notch in class, but also would allow for a section to have this secluded for interested parties.... |
