My buddy's neighbor was a driver with about 12 years of service & was making really good money. I don't remember how much (this was the early 90's) but I want to say it was in the 40-50k range. They even held his job while he went to rehab which I was pretty suprised about.

Package car drivers make about the same as feeders, $25-$26 an hour.

A supervisor told me they made a certain percentage less. I assumed that figure was a difference in base hourly wage. If the wage is the same the difference comes from the feeder overtime and doubles pay. It adds up, I know.

A friend of mine here works part time for UPS (you have to do so for about 6 years to get on) and he makes $14 an hour just doing loading of trucks. He used to ride with a driver during holidays and said the one he was with made like 25-26 an hour...and if they work over 8 hours, they get overtime at 1.5 rate. He stated that they generally work 10 hours a day too...so the last two hours, they are making around 40/hour.

The average UPS drive makes $45,000-50,000 BASE salary, then add overtime which can be very substantial depending on the route the driver has. Driver starting pay was $18/hour as of several years ago.
Our UPS driver was making over $60,000 dollars a year with overtime; he was pissed at the union when they called the last strike. At the time he was due to retire in 4 years at age 43 and collect (if I remember right) ¾ of his base pay… or about $38,000/year. |

their union has gotten them some good deals
my uncle used to do it. I don't know for sure what he got paid, but it must have been pretty good as he always had spare cash to buy 60s cars and fix them up for shows plus my aunt was a teacher, which in NY means good cash and benefits |

takes a few years to get to be a driver full time there deal 28 dollars hr with 1 dollar a year for the rest of the contact not a bad deal with the benny`s

I am sure he wasn't pissed after the strike. I don't know about the delivery drivers but the feeder drivers retirement went up. It is $5,000 a month after 30 years. That is $60,000 a year pension! There are feeders at my hub that have been there around 40 years. What is wrong with these people? Their home life sure must suck. Retire!  If this works out I would be happy passing on the feeder job. With more overtime and doubles pay I could make more at the end of the year as a feeder. I would also have to work crazy shifts for a long time. Delivery drivers all work first shift, that's a plus. As a former employee of UPS it is necessary for my work history to be reviewed. They have a one strike policy. Not a problem since I only worked there 3 months and was laid off because I was seasonal. I just have to wait. I'm excited now. |

When I left UPS, I was making about $50,000 base a year as a Feeder Driver in 1991, but I never worked a standard 8 hour day. On the average I was making about $66,000.00 a year back then
I would to ask my Daughters GodFather, but I belive the pay for Feeder Drivers is $.80 cents a hour more than a package car driver, and add another $.10 cents if you are pulling doubles or triples. Retirement is probably the best of anywhere, figure $100.00 a year. SO if you worked 20 years your retirement would be $2,000.00 a month.........up to 35 years = $3,500.00 a month full medical, dental and vision insurance at no cost. UPS and the Union are not going to let you draw your retirement till after the age of 55, so don't be thinking that you can retire in your 40's and draw your pension, it isnt going to happen. I know I can start drawing on mine at 55 and it will be about $700.00 a month but I will not get the Medical,dental or vision insurance Getting hired off the street happens, I was hired off the street when I got out of the Navy, I started out driving cuts, and filling in for vacationing drivers, and about a year later I got a bid route. Two years after that I got a bid for Feeders. I was a dumbass for quitting.

I lost all respect for UPS when they struck for more money and for weeks I had to drive 3 hours to pick up my inventory in Memphis (every week).
They (like the postal service) are one of the highest paid common laborers in the country and the exact reason your cost of living goes up every year. |

UPS never went on strike for more money. They went on strike to keep the pension plan controlled by the teamsters. UPS wanted to take over and manage the pension for their employees and the teamsters wanted to keep under their control. Had nothing to do with higher wages. |

Top Rate for UPS package car drivers is $25.42 an hour. Over time is Time and 1/2 anything over 8 hours. Holiday pay is time + time and 1/2. I made between 55K and 60K last year and I cant wait to leave. Money isnt everything.

The driver I knew said UPS gets more out of its employees than any other union. I don't remember who made this observation but they had never seen a package delivery driver retire. truck drivers yes, but the route driving chews you up and spits you out. The constant hustle at that pace breaks your body down. |

Well when you're working 11-12hr days, getting warning letters and suspended w/o pay and harrassed for every MINUTE thing you do during the day. Then you will see why the Union is needed. Mr. Casey who started UPS invited the Union (Teamsters) to work with UPS. At UPS a driver is just a piece of meat doing a job, the company gives a shit less who's doing the work. If you do a 140 stops a day they suddenly want 160. It never ends. From what I hear AFLAC won't even take on a UPS driver. |

A UPS driver I know had a severe neck injury after he was sent out in freezing rain and ran into two parked cars. Even the federal government had a delayed arrival on that day. Temperatures were supposed to rise high enough for the ice to melt, but UPS management didn't care enough about their employees to delay departure. In fact, this driver was given a warning letter for having an accident that wasn't his fault. What better way to cover up management's negligence than to try to make the driver look at fault.
I worked as a jumper, a driver helper, during Christmas one year. UPS drivers more than earn every dime they make. I wanted to smack some of the idiot customers. One guy thought we should take his packages that he had not finished packing with no addresses on them. He also wanted to give us cash, but he expected a guarantee that his packages would get there by Christmas, even though it was after 6 pm on the 23rd of December. That is one of the many examples. Don't know how much they make ,but I could really clean up if I was a thief!!!
Lots of times I hear the door bell chimes,put the porn on minimize and pick up the sig head for the door and the driver is gone!!! There sets a package not for me but across the street or two doors down!!! I allways take the parcel to whom ever it belongs! But I could make bacon and eggs hashbrowns and some dollar Gen hot chocolate,get up at the break of dawn and just follow these asshats right behind them and collect all the missed deliverys and get my own E-Bay connection!! Course That would be wrong!!!! Bob
