What single gun related action do you most regret?

In 1999 I was at lawschool and had just gotten out of the guard about a year before. We were cleaning our university townhouse and I picked up my 782 gear (whatever the hell the army guys call their web gear) and I found ten new 30 round mags for the M16 and three new mags for the M9 in my pouches and pack. They were all marked LE only so I threw them all in the dumpster in family housing because I didn't feel like having a felony.

I then let my wife throw out the gallon jug of CLP I had because it was 'ucky' looking.

ETA--I can still see that dumpster clear in my memory.

I got rid of about 30 M16 mag's in '98 to a local pawn shop in NY after I got out of the Marines.

Well... being only 3 in 1986 probally contribituted to this.

not buying a few MG's before 1986.
could have sold some of them for like 3x the price and kept a few for myself.

selling a shotgun to a work friend...he didn't pay me as promised and disappeared the next day,and I found out later he joined a gang (or was an inactive member at the time)...stupid, stupid....never again

In 1980 I bought a new HK 91 from a local sporting goods store for $640 including tax. I got behind on my car payment and sold it for $500.

I've got 2:

Not knowing that I could by long guns when I turned 18. Woolworths in the mall had Garands for $200 and Carbines for $125, MAK90's for $150. That was '89 and Woolworth's at the OVM closed in '92.

At my first gun show I saw a fixed stock, 16" barrel Uzi manufactured by Mossberg. It was in a Mossberg box with foam packaging - everything marked Mossberg. It cost $500 new. The dealer had 10 of them at the show. I have not found any information on these Uzis - no mention that they were ever sold by Mossberg to the Civilian market. I had the money but didn't like the black polymer thumbhole stock.

Telling a co worker that I had a CCW. He was interested in getting one so I told him that I had one. he asked if I carry at work, I said sometimes. He didn't have a problem, infact he liked the idea, he liked the idea so much he shared his plans of getting a CCW with another co-worker. This particular co-worker definetly did not like CCW, and in rebuttle to his fears with CCW, Co-worker 1 said "well So and so (me) carries and there's no problem." Co-worker 2 flipped out and went to the boss guys, convinced them of insurance liability or some other nonsense and now there is a no guns policy at work. .... Gees, if only I kept my mouth shut.

Bought an HK-91 in 1985 for $733 (included tax and shipping).

Sold it in early 1994 because I was supposed to have orders to California, and the Roberti-Roos assault weapons ban was already in place there. Guy I sell it to moves to Texas.

A month later my orders got switched to Colorado, then the AWB was passed.

Gun action I most regret?
Paying over $500 for a sidefolder stainless Ruger Mini 14 in 1988 from a coworker at a summer job while I was in college. Had I known a DAMN thing about guns, I coulda gone to a show and bought an AR15 or hell, an HK91 for that kind of money. What an idiot I was.

When I was a kid I ordered a supposedly legal auto sear for my 10-22. My mom wrote the check wrong or something and they sent it back. Without a return address! I could not find the ad again and I never got the parts. I'm probably better off without it but that would have been a lot of fun.

Selling my old SP1 back in 1991 for $400. Arrghh! I finally replaced it last October, but not for $400! I also regret not buying every single AR15 mag I could get my hands on back then. I know they are available now at much better prices, but not anything like they were at gun shows in the early 90s. Used military contract and Colt twenty round mags for less than five bucks, probably never see that again.

I had an ND in my house when practicing my holster pull outs with a "unloaded" revolver.

I felt like such an assclown and still do.

My family was not home and no one was hurt in the area.

There was no damage to anyone else's house and I at least followed one of the rules "Don't point your gun at something unless you want to kill it."

Now I do not do such things in the house and only play with my firearms when I clean them.

I'll never forget.

Dang! In 1986 my dad gave me a .22 that was an M16 look alike. It was made by Jerico or something like that. It was cool as hell. broke down exactly like a real AR. Had a Bayo and everything.

The only thing I regret is selling one

I'll never do that again.

Not buying an HK-91 in `85 for $500 at a local shop. "That thing's ugly....."

Not being a total magazine whore while in the Guard. I had plenty of oppurtunities, I could have walked
with a footlocker full, at least. Just "Nahhh.... I don't need to do that. Mags are so cheap...."
