My new room doesn't have any good hiding places for weapons. I would love to keep a 12ga next to my bed but dont want some crook to easily find it then shoot someone with my weapon.  My room has its own lock but it could easily be kicked in... Under the matress would give me quick access but would make it very easy to steal.  Should i just lock my door and make due with a hidden pistol? Or should i just ditch my shooty under the matress and figure if my house and room is broken into they are getting a free mossberg?

You cannot hide anything under a matress, you can only store things there.

It's not a safe, but if you are space-challenged you might want to take a look at this:

I don't think the phrase "good safe" and the word inexpensive go together unfortunately.

a pistol is much easier to hide, since you can disguise it by putting it inside a hollowed out book or hide it in a small space around the house or behind the refrigerator, since refrigerators can roll right out, you could easily put something behind it.

About the only situation where having biometric ID guns could/would be good.

In lieu, as someone mentioned earlier, the easier-to-hide pistol makes a nice substitute for your shotty.  Fits in a book.  If it's a Glock, though, you'll have to purchase War & Peace.  Or the Clinton book.    If you didn't have to pay for the fucker, wouldn't that be an ironic hiding place?

Buy a relatively inexpensive motion sensor alarm. I purchased one at Radio Shack for hotel room stays (work requires me to travel from time to time).

Just set it in front of the door/hallway/whatever, turn it on and rest easy...with your handgun/M4/whatever on the nightstand.

I liked mine so much that I've started using it and others at the house. Battery-powered, so you're good to go even in a blackout.

So, firearm(s) by the bedside at night, then take it with you when you head off to work.

Willfully Ignorant.

PLEASE Lock IT , NOT Hide IT.

Buy A $100 - $ 200  Gun Cabinet at Wal-mart.
Add a Pad-Lock to it.

A $ 300 - $ 600 Gun Safe would Be Best.

Allege 1993 feinstein/hci PRETEXT for TOTAL Gun Freedom Confiscation.

*  Arsenal Licensing (for possession of multiple guns and large
    amounts of ammunition)

4  Reduction of the number of guns to require an Arsenal license
Right now the proposed Arsenal licenses which Senator Feinstein
should be pushing for, requires an "Arsenal License" for those
people who feel they need more than 20 guns and 1000 rounds of
ammunition.  We feel that number is too generous, due to the fact
that any number of guns constitutes a grave threat to the safety
of the community, we suggest strongly that this license limit
be reduced to possession greater than 5 guns and 250 rounds of
    ammunition.

 5  Arsenal License Fees
It is not unreasonable to require a yearly fee for an Arsenal
license to be at least $300.00, with a cap of $1000.00.  The money
collected can be used to defray the immense medical costs directly
    attributed to these deadly weapons.

 6  Limits on Arsenal Licensing
No Arsenal Licensing to be permitted in counties with populations
    of more than 200,000.

7  Requirement of Federally Approved Storage Safes for all guns
We should follow Great Britain's lead on this.  All licensed
gunowners should be required to have a storage safe which meets
    minimum federally mandated requirements.
This step would reduce
the tragic accidents which claim the lives of tens of thousands
of children a year and make it more difficult for burglars to
    steal the guns.

 8  Inspection License
Another good revenue source would be mandatory inspection
licensing of all safes.  Each safe would be registered with a
specific serial number and the serial numbers and types of weapons
stored should be on file with federal and state authorities.
Since unannounced inspectors can insure that all declared weapons
are being properly stored, all safe licenses should have an
additional yearly fee to offset the cost of these spot inspections.

Ultimately such action would take the glamour
and attraction out of firearms ownership and decrease the numbers of gun
owners in the U.S. _to a manageable number._

IV. _Reduction of Gun Owner Population and Potential Yearly Revenue_

Please Secure Your Weapon,
Or They Will Take IT away from You.

Seriously, Please Don't Be Willfully Ignorant.
