My uncle has collected car parts, old junker pos cars, old bicycles, and old trinkets to the point

where he's paying huge storage fees just so he can cling to his things. I can see keeping the stuff

if you plan to liquidate at some point. I just don't think he would.

I like to keep things to a minimum. When I buy something I usually have a use for it.

Is this normal or some kind of disorder?

The all time record for pack-rating were the wealthy Collyer brothers.

They owned a three story brownstone in New York Cit in 1947.
The gas, water, and power were turned off, and the building was booby-trapped.

The police and fire department pulled 136 TONS of junk from the building, including:
14 grand pianos.
2 organs.
Human medical specimens in glass jars.
A Ford Model T chassis.
The top of a horse-drawn carriage.
An antique X-Ray machine.
An arsenal of firearms.
TONS of books.
And ton ofter ton of newspapers.

One brother was blind, and the other said he'd saved the papers in case the brother regained his eye sight, and might want to catch up on the news.

According to police, the junk was stacked from floor to ceiling, with narrow paths about 1 foot wide winding through it all.

Disorder. My folks are the same way. Both starting poor made them very frugal. 26yrs of havingthe Navy move their shit around gave them an easy way to ignore the size of the pile. Now another 20yrs have gone buy, they have a 3-car garage they can't fit a car into, and about 1000sq' of storage spaces. I'm screwed.

Somebody once said on this board something that is so true. America, the only country where people will store tons of worthless junk in their car garages and leave their multi thousand dollar automobiles outside.
