Alrighty,
In my quest for building the "Ultimate Precision Plinker" 10/22 (UPP) I'm trying to decide on a "Dot" sight. So far I've got a WeaponKraft "Ultimate" kit, a Hogue Overmolded stock on the way, and a GM 16" with Fire Sights on the way.

Now I'm thinking of either a "Kobra" (group buy going on the EE) www.freedomoptics.com/Comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=143
or a Hakko BED-24. I like the Kobra's 1.8 MOA dot (smaller dot for greater precision), different reticles and toughness, but I like the Hakko's "lines".

Both are about the same price.

I've also seen the Sightron S33-4R sightron.com/index.php?action=view_category&cat_id=1047415903
and was intrigued. I also have an Aimpoint M2 on my M4 clone, and actually thought of a Hakko Tacpoint/Aimpoint knockoff.

Any recommendations?

I like the Hakko. I don't know how small the dot is on it, but it is quite fine. Can't be much larger than the 1.8 MOA dot on the other sight that you are looking at, if it is larger at all.

. I figgered' this board gets alot more "traffic". When going here
www.hakko-japan.co.jp/optical/english/dot.htm, it appears that the smallest dot on the MR models (most common ones. I've never seen a VD version) is most likely 6 or 8 MOA.

Good idea..... Didn't mean any offence. Just that there's a lot of total 10/22 freaks over there that probably don't come over here to the 'dark side'

I have no doubt that you'll get a bunch of good suggestions, on both sides.

6 or 8 MOA? No way, not on the Hakko I had. My guess is that dot was 1 MOA it appeared just like the dot on my EOTech.

On your Hakko, did you have a bunch of other reticles, or just a choice of different size dots? If you check out the link, you can see that the dots are more in the 4-8 range.

Maybe this will help.
I had a sightron 10 MOA on my Buckmark.
I also made up some target on 8.5"x11" paper.
The dot would cover the 10 ring at 25 yards, perfectly.
So, for of hand practice and such... perfect.
Find your use, then...

The sightrons are excellent value.

I had the BED-35, it had several different reticle patterns to choose from. I think mine was the MR-02 reticle. I sold it and bought an EOTech because a few shots of my AR would rattle it loose.

how well does it perform? I have a 10/22 pistol in the makes, and it's got an integrated weaver base.

That arguement doesn't make much sense. I'm of the "if you can't see it, you can't hit it" camp. Plus, all the optics I listed are pretty cheap. If it's bad optics and I have to send it back four times, how am I coming out ahead? I'm not talking ACOG's here. The most expensive one I listed is $200. Why is it guys don't bat an eye at spending "more than the rifle" for optics for an AR, yet freak out when it comes to a .22?? I mean, realistically, more people shoot more out of their .22 than any other weapon.

Yeah, I thought of an EOTech, but it's over my budget. Plus, if I bought one, I'd wanna put it on an AR and not the .22

Even if you got the smallest simplest EOTech. They get down towards the price of the more expensive ones you have listed I think.

It's fine. It's been banging around for some time and ~1000 rounds. But that's .22lr on a rifle. The only thing that'll kill a scope on a weapon like that is faulty manufacture or a direct impact on the scope.
And it's a 40mm tube, it might look a little huge on a pistol.

That pic above, I put a ramline etended mag release on it long ago. Then just recently I added an extended bolt catch/release, and adapted a much larger / wider bolt handle from a .22mag model. None of those parts was over $14.
It's a sweet little shooter all for $200. It makes a great near-disposeable training gun for teaching new shooters, and for plinking.

Well,
I figure, I know I wanted a 1 MOA dot. EOTech has it. I know I wanted quality (could mount on one of my AR's if I wanted to). EOTech has it. So if it's exactly what I want, is great quality, and I know it will work, then it's not so expensive after all.
