So there I was, breaking ground on a new garden spot, a little 12 by 12 spot, just right for some green beans, tomatoes, and some potatoe plants, maybe a row of corn...

Here it is....

and here is my first kill olf the year, COOPERHEAD SNAKE.....

I found while digging in the dirt....it is now dead....

Doesn't look like a copperhead thoug it is probably because of the glare from the scales.  I caught garder snake last week.  Don't know how in the hell it is living right now because it is snowing and cold as shit.

Seriously, head looks too small to be a copperhead. I think you viciously defended your garden against a foot long garter snake.

+1

looks like a plain ol brown snake of some sort to me, I usually don't kill any snake unless it is poisonous. Copperheads around here have V shaped heads, and their skin is very shiney with a pretty pattern to them. They usually stand out pretty good, we also have a shitload of prarie snakes that people often kill mistaking them as copperheads.

and copperhead sounds better than run of mill rat snake...

and yes I was in fear for my life...

WIth all the talk around here of defending your property, against all threats, no matter what size, and all the talk of shoot, shovel.....yall have dissapointed me.....

But I forgive you....

Now that I had a victory meal of BBQ Brisket, I am going back to my garden, my well defended garden....

I still have to hang the corpse on a fence to scare off other snakes....

I am assuming you checked with all your neighbors first to see if it was someones pet first right?

Did it have snake tags around it's neck?

Probably someones pet.

Sick fucks like you that would kill someones pet should be arrested.

Everyone knows this is how it starts.

First snakes...then a rat now and then...

Next thing you know you will be out driving around the neighborhood looking for small cats to run over with your gas guzzling SUV.

You sir...are an animal terrorist!!!!!

If you killed it in West Virginia it wasn't an eastern diamondback.  It was a timber rattlesnake.  They come in 2 color phases a light phase which is a yellow-brown and a dark phase which can be all black or black-brown.  The black phase is usually found on high ridge lines where the temperatures aren't as warm.  The black pigment helps them absorbe UV rays.

You get into eastern diamondback country down around South Carolina down to Florida and west into western Mississippi
