I understand from my brother-in-law and his friends that they have kids and so they ahve a small lockbox in teh nightstand, or some thing like that. I have just recently sewn an uncle mike's spandex/nylon (?) holster into the right fwd side of my bed for mine. Do you guys just leave them on nightstand? under bed? do ya wear a holster to sleep?

Couple....no kids.....drawer in bedside table....no holster (one more thing I would need to deal with)
Mag loaded, empty chamber. If and when kids enter the equation i will need to rethink this. |

Mossberg 500a loaded but nothing in the chamber next to bed, 5 SXT's in the .38 sp in the desk drawer, a backpack w/a Glock 19 and five loaded mags in a backpack along with other $hit in the closet (10 rounders, Kalifornistan), and 1500 rounds on strippaz for the SKS in another backpack in the closet.
Peak oil in 3 years TOPS, boy. Whatcha gonna do when they come for you? Ten seconds of glory, four billion years of nothingness. Victory or suicide. |

I'm similar. XD40 tactical an inch away (ETA: M3x open on nightstand - no room for it in cheap holster) from my right hand at all times and 410 cruiser under the bed.
my brother-in-law and my old gun club up north are all buying fingerprint bedside draw safes together. I think only 400 bucks a pop, they fit in a draw and you touch them , max 2 second delay, usualy 1.5 and you gotcher loaded glock (in his case) right there. If/When I have kids (lloooooooong time in future) I have NO idea what I'd do. But a friend of mine chopped a 6 inch by 3 feet whole in his wall and popped a shotgun IN there, then put a single layer of drywall over it and didn't mark it. only he and wife (and I) know where it is and they can easily access it anytime. It's near to ceiling and even I (5"11) need a step stool to get to it, so that's his version of kid proof but quick. And yes he's practiced and I think BG would die laughing. but its fast and works. |

Couple with no kids. Bedroom is upstairs seperated from visitor view.
Kel-tec P32 sits in a slip holster on the nightstand. Round in the chamber. *Side note My current wife HATED guns when we first started dating. She went to the range with me and was scared to death. We had the range to ourselves with a friend accompanying us. He and I (both ex-military instructors) taught her proper handling, etc, and she was very excited when she could shoot and hit the 4"plate at 100 yards (.22 rifle..but she still felt special, and we encouraged it). She didn't care much for the pistols or other rifles, but learned to shoot both. The Kel-tec was my CC weapon, but now she won't let me take it from the bedside - she likes the security of knowing it's there while I'm at work 3rd shift. I'm gonna have to get another Kel-tec to carry now... |

And for my 1000th post (I think)....
The Chinchester The old school 1911 (1917 vintage) I keep 5 in the tube of the Chinchester, not because I believe the myth of "pump a round in and scare off a perp" but because the only safety is a half cock notch. The 1911 stays cocked and locked when I'm home. It's the oldest and the best 1911 I've ever owned. It's simple, accurate, reliable and not collectable enough to worry about using. |

.357 on the head board are of my bed (about 4 inches from my head while I'm sleeping).

No kids in the house here.
I normally just leave it (USP 45 fullsize) on the nightstand. In any case, my safe is less than 4 feet from the foot of the bed and unlocked anytime I'm home. Almost everything in it is locked and loaded, ready for action. |

Well, not in place yet but it should be Glock 17 in holster attached to back of nightstand. No round in the chamber, surefire attached or nearby.

I just have a clacker next to the bed thats wired to the claymore in the cieling angled towards the front door. No need to get out of the nice warm comfy bed when I can mist them from the next room.

Single, GF staying over every night....
Baby Eagle 9MM in nightstand drawer, loaded magazine, empty chamber, Next to bedroom door is my Winchester 1300 Defender w/ pistolgrip, hanging, tube full of slugs/OO buck, empty chamber. On a closet shelf is my Bushy, unloaded.

Pretty much the same set-up here - only it's usually an AK47 clone for a long gun - although that sometimes varies with a 12ga pump, an AR-15, or maybe an FAL being part of the rotation... A Speed-Six snubbie .357Mag loaded with .38Spcl +P JHPs stays loaded in the headboard of the waterbed - they all get locked into the safe when we leave the house... - georgestrings |

I'm single and no kids. No one else lives with me so I feel reasonably safe leaving mine loaded right under the bed. (SW99 .45)
If living situation changes, then I'll consider another method, but for now, no reason to worry about other people messing with it. |

This close to the border, I have a large number of firearms within arms reach of the bed. No kids still at home, so I have my 1911 (4 mags)on the nightstand, a Winchester Defender 1300(8 round tube with 6 more in a side saddle) between the bed and the nightstand, and my M-15 with 8 spare mags in a rack next to the bureau. My wife has her XD 9 sub compact on the headboard with 1 spare mag. Woe be unto the zombie that wanders into my hacienda at night.
Oh, and this being AZ, I have a 4 D-cell Maglite standing next to the 1911. Never can be too careful. |

Glock 20, right above my head on the window sill, in the middle. I can reach it laying on my bed, for some one else to get it they would have to reach over me. Mag full, one in the chamber. Right next to it is a surefire light.

Mossberg 590 chambered, safety on in corner. G23 with 14 Gold Dots on floor next to bed. AR chambered, safety on a long arm reach away.

IMHO I think that's asking for an accident. I keep a longgun in the computer room. I keep a loaded mag nearby, but NOT in the gun. I may drink a few beers on the weekend, or company might be over. (No kids with guns out of course). If I have time to get to the gun, I probably have time to throw a mag in and hit the bolt release. Besides I like to dry fire a bit for trigger practice. Don't get enough time on the range.

I've got my .40 P99 on the table by the bed, mag loaded no round in the chamber.
I hate to be "that" guy, but does anyone feel they might be a little overboard on their home defense? I mean damn, a pistol w/ 3 mags, a bushy with 4 and a shotty full of slugs? Recurring zombie nightmares or what? |

Gee. Take your pic. Baby Eagle 9mm with hydrashocks between mattresses, M4 in corner in closet(5 feet), 590 urban pixilated duracoat(not done yet, sooooooon) with buck in the tube and chamber, smaller buck in the side saddle, and 4 slugs in the speedfeed. Bullets for every job.
ETA: All chambered. Im to dumb and slow when i wake up from dead sleep and go into high adrenaline to think about more than aim and fire. I could *probably*(read havent had to yet) wake up, find a weapon, identify target, and fire if needed. Add any more steps and your putting to many variables in the process. |

Single guy, currently living in an apartment (roommate has seperate bedroom).
There's a 1911, mag loaded but not chambered, and 2 spares in my sock drawer next to the bed. M4 leans against the wall, between the computer desk and bed, 30rd mag in the sock drawer with the 1911. 590A1 in closet, tube full but not chambered, cruiser ready (hammer down on empty chamber, safety off, just pump and shoot). When I settle on my house and finally move in (June or so, have to renovate first), the M4 will stay with the computer desk (no longer in the master bedroom), 1911 and 590A1 will transition to equilvalent places in new bedroom. I'll also be loading up my 870 and placing it in the basement, since its a split foyer house, the only stairs have a landing at the front door, so its possible to be trapped and unable to get to the bedroom. I keep a Beratta 92 in a Galco shoulder rig slung over the headboard.
But I sleep fine with the door unlocked or my keys in the door. I ain't sceered. Maybe an exgirlfriend will come calling

226 with loaded chamber in nightstand, Mossy 500 cruiser ready leaning on bedpost. We have had home invasions in this end of the county. Scary thought when you realize that there are only 2 cops on duty most nights to cover entire county.
